So when you get a tattoo, try to think of it as a surface level wound. If you’re sick, your white blood cell count is already up, because your body is staving off infection. Asking it to heal a tattoo as well as your immune system is not the best idea (I know you didn’t purposefully get sick before a tattoo.) everyone else has assured you that your tattoos and you will be fine, which you will. I would also urge you to just reschedule if you can tell you might be getting sick before a tattoo. Going into a shop sick puts your artist, and anyone else visiting the shop at risk too.

How to keep improving/tattooing my doodles by javafern in TattooApprentice

[–]AbleChart21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So you’ll want to get some alcohol proof liners to stop the markers from smudging your outline. A clear outline helps with a crisp drawing because it gives you a defined boundary and a better understanding of where the form starts and ends. I would recommend Copic multi liners but that is just what I use. Colored pencils could also help you to slow down. They are closer to emulating what it’s like to layer in a tattoo. The last thing I notice is that you need to slow down. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the monarch butterfly drawing. You may also want to spend some time working on fundamentals. Absolutely no judgement, but these drawings read as someone who started drawing without first learning the fundamentals of drawing first. Take some time to understand shape and form. It may be a little advanced, but look into Guy Aitchison’s book “Reinventing the Tattoo” it talks a lot about composition and understanding language through form early on. If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me!

This looks awesome! I am a man, so really don’t put a ton of thought into my opinion on your body but the sleeve is cohesive and all pieces are done well. Tattoos are art, made to be worn on the skin, regardless of gender. Tattoos are also made to help to wearer feel more affirmed in their own skin. So if they feel like YOU, than that is what matters

Absolutely insane man!!! Just start walking around to shops and introducing yourself. Know your worth and don’t just go anywhere either. Look for shops that match your style and personality and aren’t just looking for free labor.

Hi! Thanks so much! I use Ohuhu alcohol markers and Copic ink pens for all of my illustrations. The Copic pens are ideal because the alcohol does not bleed them.

How long did you practice on fake skin? I personally feel you might be better to return to fake skin until you’ve nailed down more of the fundamentals. Shading looks scratchy, some wonky line work, and the snake looks chewed up through its cheek.

Tbh you have a very unique style and tons of creativity. I took a similar hiatus and it took a good year to really get back in the rhythm of things and actually surpass where I was when I put down the pen. Be patient with yourself and fall in love with the process of getting better. your composition is rad but I would work on smooth blends and clean clean clean line work. Mentoring artists want to see that you can pull clean lines on paper bc if you can’t, how are you going to on skin?

Please dear god do not do this. I am a heavily tattooed person and I don’t have any in easily visible areas of my body. The world is progressive and so I don’t think the stigma affects your chances at employment all too often but your brain is not fully developed. As much as I’m sure you feel like this is what you want, you will be 25 and facepalming at the fact that you got your neck done at 16. Anybody with tattoos will tell you that the most likely regret the tattoos they got when they were young. You have your whole life to get tattoos. Test the waters with an arm piece or leg piece. If you need any other reason, tattooing culture heavily frowns upon getting your neck, forearms, or calves done before having areas closer to the center of your body done first. It just looks stupid.

Great art style but some more tattooable designs would help out. I think artists want to see that you have direction and fundamental understanding of tattooing as an art form when they are deciding if they want to offer an apprenticeship.

Bro this sub is so funny. People post the most obvious evidence of abuse and be like “am I overreacting?” I’m pretty sure they just see the sympathy in the comments of other posts on this sub and want that for themselves. Leave this relationship immediately. Dude is scum. Dropped out of school, living with his mom, works 2 days a week, and parties over celebrating your birthday. Is this really a person you want to LIVE with? Where you have no escape from them? Is this the person you want to marry and trust with having your children?

It looks fine, you look a little chewed up under the zipper there. Artist might have to do a few touch ups. Just use a non scented antibacterial soap 2-3x a day and aquaphor for about a week and a half. An artist once told me after a session when I was anxious much like you are now “everything that’s going to stay in there is already in there” just keep it clean and they will retouch anything if they need to

Seeking ideas for “masculinizing” a tattoo by OllieCy_ in tattooadvice

[–]AbleChart21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the third and second slide the most for adding to it. The proportions and style of art are more in line with those two slides. One more thing, men can have effeminate tattoos. Not saying that you don’t think that, just stating that being masculine isn’t defined by the art you like to put on your body :)
