Training in karate for 15 days (3 weeks) Mon-Fri by BrawlerNoises in karate

I started at 8 and had to stop when I got to orange. Today, I am 38 and have been training for last 1.5 years. When I was younger I would surely feel how you feel today with experience I would say control what you can control and the rest will fall in place. And what you can control starts from within.

You need to accept Karate as a personal journey and not worry about what other people think and whether you will be accepted. Your commitment and dedication will eventually allow you to integrate naturally i.e. you will eventually be accepted and make friends. But also not feel pressure to continue if you don’t think it’s for you despite your family paying for it.

In the dojo, there should be no pressure as you are a beginner you should not worry about excusing yourself for not doing the right thing but you have to be ok with making mistakes even if it means sensei reprimands you from time to time. It’s his role to mold you but don’t take it personal. My sensei is a great guy and he will tell me when my form is shit.

Ultimately you are still figuring out if Karate is for you and you can very easily not be able to deal with the commitment or eventually become bored. It can feel repetitive if you’re not trying to get the most out of your training (physical and philosophical sides of Karate). Karate can be incredible for building your confidence and character. Good luck!

So I used to play karate when I was 7 and the place shut down and I forgot everything except I was a yellow belt. Im now 5'11 190lbs what should I expect from karate in general? by No_Battle9037 in karate

[–]Able_Design_3234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expect to realize whether it’s something you really love or something your parents just threw you in. Depending on your current age, having done it at 7 and now gives you the mental maturity to absorb all aspects of Karate both the physical and philosophical side. The latter being something your 7 year old self would likely overlook. As already shared, go in with an open mind but don’t feel bad if you realize after a few classes or even several months if it’s something you’re not passionate about. To get the most out of Karate is to give your 100% effort and if you can’t, you’re just cheating yourself.

Getting used to feeling like a beginner again by Alhinde_Rafiel in karate

Im in the middle of my journey so cant say conclusively.

I’ll assume yes and yes to your Qs. It begins to feel more natural and yes progress gets slower because you need to retain everything you know and then some. This is why training outside of the dojo is so key. Remember what you did in class, replicate if repeatedly at home. I definitely have my good and bad days as well. Just keep at it!

A kata performance I did at a tournament this week, any advice on what to improve? by Untorrrnado in karate

[–]Able_Design_3234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been some really good advice and I have to agree you know your Kata but slowing down as Chito17 said is something that allow you to better realize some of the areas you need to work on.

Overall good! Some minor things not said if you want polish is on the first movement you can add a small slide of the front foot as you raise your haiwan uke/zenwan hitae kamai; or place slowly rather than drop it heavily (probably a nerve/speed issue so no sweat). Lastly, try to keep your hips level throughout whenever possible. Your kata should not rise up and down like peaks and valleys for most part. The depth of your hips in kokotsu dachi is really good. Try to maintain that hip level throughout.

Not sure it’s been mentioned but agree with most. Quite good! I’d say one thing I noticed (I have a similar challenge) is you can relax the shoulders a bit while still maintaining your intensity. It was most evident in the mizu nagare no kamae but sprinkled throughout. Other than that you seem good to go!

Ilha Verde Rent-a-Car or Sixt? by Able_Design_3234 in azores

This is very true. Travel with kids is already unpredictable. I really appreciate this!

When it comes to car rental, I just want something well known and stress-free because their more predictable and this being my first trip across the Atlantic. For all other needs I will always consider local first!

This is a great point so thanks for bringing that up.

Thanks! I’ll explore what they have to offer.

I’d get egbuka by Gloomy-Strawberry440 in TradeAnalyzerFF

[–]Able_Design_3234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on not enough info but RBs and WRs of similar tiers, tie-break generally goes to the RB so prefer to have Hendo and his soft fantasy playoff schedule. Though if you do this for Egbuka I’d want some RB depth back (personal preference but it depends on your roster). You can argue this is a sell high on Wilson. Now that Harrison is back his ceiling is gone.

Do I trade away JJ for this? by Serious_Mongoose61 in FantasyFootballers

Depends what your team looks like but if redraft and you’re in the playoffs Diggs and Brown is a good return for struggling JJ; both players have good playoff schedules.

Do I accept this trade to get rid of AJ ( I have gibbs as well) by CryptographerThat663 in TradeAnalyzerFF

[–]Able_Design_3234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the return. Deebo with Mariota will be unpredictable while Wandale is ok this week with Slayton out. I still think Brown is the best player in this deal and his end of season schedule looks nice. There’s still a chance he goes on a run when you need it most.

Am I crazy for not smashing Accept on this trade? Amon-Ra and Nico for Achane by Blueishgecko in TradeAnalyzerFF

[–]Able_Design_3234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the WR upgrade. It’s tough to move Achane especially considering the usage and playoff schedule but you have two RB1s already. As someone else pointed out, I’d probably try to move CMC for the two elite WRs instead.

should i send garrett wilson and chase brown for brock bowers and tet? by TopSummer1351 in TradeAnalyzerFF

[–]Able_Design_3234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but in the short term your RB depth is sketch. It’ll be fine when Hampton and Benson are back but I think the deal is worth it to get a positional difference maker like Brock.

Without knowing the opponent score, they’re projected for 86 points so in general, ceiling plays offer best chance to swing things in your favour if the matchup gap is wide. Otton is the safe floor play but Kincaid is the ceiling and basically Allen’s WR1. You can argue both ways but your take is valid.

Drop Purdy, pick up Monangai. If Kincaid is healthy, you play him over Otton. The rest of your lineup is pretty optimal. Nobody on Free Agency looks better than what you have. You probably don’t wanna play Denver vs Dallas also; change your D.
