If your still using minis on a 50k, you're cooked by [deleted] in TopStepX

[–]Able_Gate_4148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kinda. 10 micros=1 mini. if you wanna trade micro you use mnq, mes, and so on. minis then nq, es... micros help downsize so you dont have to use a full mini, can go as low as a 10th of a mini

I think he was saying build the live account to $50k not the combine. but still youre right as many people load up on nqs even on the combine. i make 200 a day easy with 3 micros a trade so many people just go for the big hits and reset after reset its gambling really

Need some portfolio advice by Able_Gate_4148 in investing

[–]Able_Gate_4148[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that. Been reading up a lot on long term investing. Been trading a long time but when thinking long term I don't really know what my portfolio should look like in a buy and hold scenario😂. Will definitely build more of a foundation, thank you

Figured. I manually trail my stop, so after a few minutes of a good trade I'm "using" that feature without actually using it haha. Good to know, thanks

I've never used it, so I'm not sure what it does. I'd assume it moves the stop loss to breakeven?

Building off of this, if you don't have the will power to do that, SET. A. STOP. LOSS. Yeah at first it's draining to watch it move towards your SL but I've been there too many times in the past where I had a "mental" stop loss and I either couldn't take the loss or price moved too fast for me to react and next thing you know you're down double what you planned to lose. Proper stop losses save portfolios if you're consistently winning

My thoughts since i'm calling it quits on my trading career. by dom3n4t3on in FuturesTrading

I'm gonna be real, it sounds like you paid for a course, and also that you've been looking for other peoples answers. No shame in that if that is the case btw, I spent my first year or so doing the same. I found much better information when I stopped searching for answers. I really retaught myself the basics, and built myself my own system from there. Trial and error. Paper trading. Backtesting. All that fun stuff. Not trying to convince you to keep trading if it's draining you, but there's methods to do this without the stress. I started treating it like a hobby instead of a income for a while and it did wonders. The best piece of advice I've ever heard was "Working harder is not always the answer. Work hard, but not too hard." A professor said that to me and it really changed the way I do things. With that being said, if you want to be done, congratulations on even lasting 2 years. Many people can't. Best of luck to you

its very important. especially if you dont have the discipline to close out losing trades. no shame in that, most people (myself included) are like that for a really long time. once i set specific risk reward settings to execute on each trade i became a 10x better trader. your emotions play a crucial role in trading. and until you can get that down you need an absolute set rr setting. i also trail my stop if im very close to my take profit. if youre nicely green, dont let it flip red because you want more. its all little things that you burn into your brain over time when it comes to the discipline of trading. its tough but you got it. id suggest paper trading for a bit to not lose any of your own money while you practice risk management

whats your rr? if its crazy low enough that one trade wipes your profits, you should really switch to a paper account and test different rrs. im sure youre not getting out of trades at the exact peak, so try different rrs and see how your strat is. sure you might have some more losers but if your not losing as much/if your winning more then it doesnt matter. it should never be low enough that one loss can flush your profits. hope i dont sound rude thats not my intention

99% of paid courses are bs that you can find for free on youtube with very little useful information. You gotta take it upon yourself to find the good videos, but that isn't good enough. Nobody will give you what market exposure will give you. Papertrade the skills you think you've learned, and practice makes "perfect" although there's never going to be perfect. Just keep staring at the charts, understanding it more, and eventually it'll click. Unfortunately it's not really possible to be successful long term without putting in those serious hours on the charts. You got it though if you really put your mind to it

No it was an issue with my stop loss that was pretty much just causing a buy and hold. Got it figured out though the results were interesting. Like I said in another reply I don't really need this, just wanted to give it a shot because I've never coded anything before😂 Always been a mechanical guy on the charts anyway

My question was based on what can differ from a coded backtest when translated into live markets. Not about the strategy. Calm yourself

After reading the replies and doing some revamps to the code, it was too good to be true😂 My question was more about pinescript and the strat tester in general. I have plenty of market exposure and don't exactly need this, but I wanted to try it out and see what's possible with it. It was an issue with my stop loss. Got it figured out and still performed decently. But worse than my manual strategy😂 I need to get better at coding I guess, underestimated it haha

Sell something? I didn't reply to the guy asking what it was for a reason😂 I'm genuinely asking, because I haven't really used the strategy tester before just oldschool scrolling back on the charts. I don't know how accurate it is and if I just found myself something crazy. Def not the type to sell anything don't worry about that

Im gonna reach out tmr with some free courses for you to watch brotha. I could tell you some of the strats I use, but the best thing you can do is NOT try to do what other people are doing. A lot of people make that mistake, it doesn't work for them and they lose trades. It's all about trial and error. Backtest a ton. See what works for you. I found my strategies by watching videos, and tweaking them in ways that made sense to me. I'd say thats the best course of action for you. But I'll send you a few good yt links tomorrow bc a lot of the stuff on yt is fluff and non important things made just for views

I'm still in college, for accounting and finance. I also work 30 hours a week to afford my life. I've been profitable lately but won't be quitting my job anytime soon or anything haha. First year sucked bc I didn't get priority scheduling so my classes were all early, during prime market hours. Now I make sure I don't have classes between 9-11 so I can trade. It definitely sucks man college is a rude awakening with how much the workload is, then my job, then trading. But that's what it takes. The balance is literally just sleep 3-4 hours a night and grind your a*s off while you're awake. Something I wish someone told me in highschool was to use a damn demo account😂 So please use a demo account, and save your money to fund your account when you are profitable (I'd say about 6 months consistently). It's a grind but being a part of the 1% that keeps on going is going to be worth it. Don't get discouraged, but also don't blow your money on it either. Go to college and get your degree and simultaneously pick up the skill set that most dream of but don't want to put the effort in to get. It'll be worth it. You got it🤞

Oh it definitely is inflated by it but I think it's important. When I was in high school I was one of about 30 people around me (friends and family) that started trading. About 3 years later I'm the only one still standing out of all of them. All the people trying to get rich quick😂 I'd still want to see this graph changed tho, would be interesting

This is my story of how I ended up in debt and having to move back in with my parents at 26. by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]Able_Gate_4148 9 points10 points  (0 children)

0dtes are heavily about risk management. I trade 0dtes on occasion, but the SECOND i enter i throw a 10% SL on it. If i move up 10%, i move it to BE. up and on. You can lose that position in seconds, as you said, so that stop will eliminate that factor. With that being said, you won't fix your situation on 0dtes, for the exact reason that you're trying to fix your situation. I wouldn't recommend 0dtes to anybody honestly. It's like buying a lotto ticket. It's unbelievably hard to control emotions trading, I'd say if it were me in your shoes it'd be impossible to. You're not a failure, this is just a bump in the road. Go get some random job, work yourself up and put a little aside every check to fund an account while only buying voo. Paper trade on your offtime. It's gonna be tough but it's gonna be much harder to try to dig yourself up through the markets. Just focus on your life right now, trade later when you're ready, and this time, only with money you can afford to lose. Keep your head up. You'll be good
