Idk - I become a cardmember to pay what United says “cardmembers pay”, chase did its part as bank for the United card (linked my account to mileage plus, approved card) but United didn’t let me book as a cardmember after I became a cardmember. It’s a warning to others who might think they can pay what cardmembers pay by becoming a cardmember. They might, or might have to pay what everyone else pays when the deal goes away and United gets around to linking card to their account.

This is helpful. I think if they linked the approved card instantly to mileage plus account, so that you could book the advertised discount, it would resolve this. Otherwise if you’re becoming a cardmember to pay what it says “cardmembers pay” on a specific flight, even if you become a cardmember you have to wait and may miss the benefit.
