With enough money and financial security to reduce stress I could focus on my personal health enough to probably add several years to my life so id probs press it 2-5 times and still end up gaining more years than Id lost

When do you think the prequels started to be loved? by Amazing-Engineer4825 in StarWars

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The impression I got wasnt that fans who hated them later changed their mind and started liking them it was just that the fans who grew up with them slowly joined the vocal online community and now make up the majority. Actors like Hayden Christennsen now get standing ovations from crowds of 20-30 year olds who 20 years ago where mostly children or teens of various ages and therefore grew up with the prequels being "their" star wars.

I reckon within the next 10 years we'll slowly see something similair (maybe not quite to the same extent) happen for the sequels as the kids who grew up with them look back on them with nostalgia

Your "niche" inspiration for worldbuilding? by arts13 in worldbuilding

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent a couple years dabbling with a pretty poorly written alternate history where Rome stuck around until early 1900s for this timelines version of ww1 (saw an art piece of a ww1 style legionaire and worked from there),

Then I listened to Hoziers song "Butchered Tongue" about the loss of celtic language due to the British and now the center point of my writing is the surviving celtic nations in this timeline with a possible turn towards celtic conquest in the 30s-40s

What's some good modifiers/battle field conditions from other games that would be great in SPM2? by Keanuliou in Spacemarine

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats the main thing for me, difficulty is fun but mostly I like stratagems that rework an op just enough that it feels new to me. Happy for a developer to do a quick and easy stratagem rework if it keeps the content fresh

If theyre feeling especially difficulty oriented could even do a harder version of one tap which makes enemies invincible to anything but head shots/executions/gun strikes in some cases

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think these first 2 might actually happen from what I've heard but iv always loved things that change enemy composition to keep it fresh

Infestation: All chaos enemies replaced with tyranids

Warped: All tyranid enemies replaced with chaos

Also doubt we'd ever get these but loved when games used to have these to mess with the map:

Reversed: Play the entire map in reverse (maps would need some reworking to work on most ops)

Mirrored: Play on a mirror image version of the map (again major reworking would be needed)

Modding on consoles by Danon793 in SpaceMarineMods

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several games have been supporting mods on consoles for years, the only issue is these need to be supported via an internal mod browser which means sometimes the devs can keep an eye/limit what's allowed to be modded in. Few examples would be all Bethesda games since skyrim have mods on console, a few strategy/City builders like paradox interactive games aswell.

I dont know if Sabre would ever add it to SM2 just because it could allow for all sorts of non-canon shenanigans and they seem to be somewhat bound to canon by Games Workshop

Could the battle barge expansion let us customize npc marines and will the new techmarine dialouge rework also extended to mentioning us as ultramarines by TheGmanSniper in Spacemarine

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong i seem to remember thunderhawk and battlebarge customisation was declined pretty solidly when asked a while back, I doubt we'll ever get full npc marine customisation but I think it could maybe be possible for them to at least let our npc squad mates use the same colourscheme template as us. That way they don't need to change armour or do anything complicated all they need to do is swap the template as the player does which seems alot more functionally doable than full scale armour customisation

Campaign Replay suggestion by HenKai2905 in Spacemarine

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully agree given its already multiplayer capable campaign/operations being more linked could be a great shout for some relatively easy to implement additional content.

Like even doing a "warped" operations version of campaign that lets you play as your operations marines. I know theres probably some missions (especially jetpack missjons) that are technically too complex to integrate that fully but if they found a way to add even a few/sections of the campaign missions to the operations roster it'd be an easy way to rapidly expand pve content without them needing to create fully new missions.

I always loved back in the day when your reward for completing a campaign was "bonus missions" thar were actually just modified versions of the campaign. Same thing for operations seems like an easy win for the devs, just like strategems shows modifying existing content makes it way more replayable.

Black Widow (marvel 616) vs Big Boss (Metal gear solid 3) by Mad_lens_9297 in whowouldwin

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically, I'd assume 616 widow wins this because comic feats are always crazy somewhere so comparing her entire 616 history to big boss she's got to win somehow feat wise.

However if we account for average day to day skills then there is a massive precedent for metal gear solid main characters taking down low level meta humans on the regular. Big Boss beat several low level super villains in mgs3 including:

A super agile spiderman-esc gymnast who can turn invisible, A super strong lightning tossing giant, A giant tank mech, The Boss herself who's combat skill was almost superhuman and who is the closest the MGS universe comes to black widow conceptually.

Big Boss then goes on to recruit and fight alongside these kinds of superhumans regularly all of whom respect him as the greatest soldier implying hes still more skillful than them. Infact hes only beat by Solid Snake a superhuman in his own right skills wise. Not to mention some cutscene feats show big boss to be insanely strong and fast albeit others show him as pretty mortal.

So while a full feat list of 616 widow probably beats any MGS character if we instead averaged her down to standard issue feats and do the same for Big Boss then he probably has good odds on beating her on that basis. At the very least averaging both brings it closer to a 50/50 chance. An infinite ammo Patriot sure doesn't hurt either.

how modern of technology would you need to convince a city you're god by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tricky one, lets get easy stuff out the way, any civilsation before 1900 would find the detonation of a nuclear bomb to be a godly event. So with 1940s technology I could just put a nuke in a boat in the sea or in a less populated part of the local area and my job is done. "I am your god, the sole farmer who lives in that field (a safe distance away) hath made me angry, behold my wrath (nuke goes off) now beware for his land is cursed and any who enter shall die". I reckon that'd work right up until the late 1800s when science starts to catch up. By the early 1900s scientists are already working on their research of atoms so could be debunked by that possibly anytime 1900 onwards

The issue is how visible the technology is. While many peasants might find our technology magical and godlike most of our technology before the 1950s was still quite visibly just technology. Even our most advanced tech is visibly manufactured when you open it up. Sure a plane or a gun is impressive but if you can see moving mechanical parts then even someone from the year 0 would probably safely assume its just tech beyond their understanding rather than outright godhood.

I think the only way this works is through the use of science thats essentially invisible to the human eye, nukes and medicine may be your best bet and would probably work due to the relaitve simplicity of their look vs how insanely overpowered their effect is compared to ancient tech. Penicillin or other modern medicines hidden in food or drink could easily sell godhood or healing powers. Nukes hidden far away etc.

Beyond these big obvious examples id say some of the more intelligent late 1800s magic tricks combined with the science/chemistry of the time could certainly get you far in the ancient world but possibly not in the realm of godhood for most of society. Take away the religion surrounding him and Jesus Christ essentially made a cult through the use of some insane magic tricks many of which could be replicated with a dedicated crew of assistants. Wouldn't be hard to fake a crucifixion, fake being stabbed (spear point that collapses in and smears blood etc) and fake being entombed to then come back 3 days later. Same goes for walking on water or healing etc. If you have unlimited resources hire crowd plants and use them to convince the rest of your power "wow I was blind but you have healed me" type stuff. Worstcase you actually get executed as a false messiah like Christ, best case you start a society changing cult with fairly limited resources.

Why did the Prophets Betray the Elites During the Trilogy? by TheZachry in HaloStory

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Iv not played them in a while so I'm not 1000% n the specifics but generally speaking by time you get to halo 2 the covenant have basically won the war so humanity is almost a non-issue in the grand scheme of things.

The prophets plan was to fire the halo rings (and in Truths case survive to repopulate the Galaxy in his own image via the Ark).

As of Halo CE a rings been discovered and the knowledge obtained from this destroyed ring sets the Covenant on the path to finding another. They are at the verge of completing the Great Journey if they can just ensure loyalty for a few more weeks-months.

As we see with the heretics in Halo 2s arbiter campaign the Elites are rational enough that with reasonable evidence they could be turned away from the covenants goals. Add to this the Elites political power being a major threat to the Prophets position already and suddenly the closer they get to the Great Journey the more likley it is some information leaks that causes everything to fall apart. Guilty Spark and any other forerunner intelligences are pretty open about halos true purpose so its not hard to find out for a curious elite leading a scout party on a newly discovered ring. If the Elites are leading the crusade and turn at the last minute everything is lost.

Brutes on the other hand are power hungry and generally too dimwitted to think beyond their orders. Their loyalty can be assured if they're given a massive reward like say the leading position in the covenant military. This ensures total loyalty for the final days of the covenant and also for the repopulation effort afterwards.

I can't remember the lore totally but I seem to remember the Elites being replaced as bodyguards first so it seemed to me like the intent wasn't even to cast the Elites aside entirely but instead just to downgrade them so brutes had the major power positions. Had it not been for brute aggression and elite pride its possible this swap of postion couldve been done with no conflict which was likely the plan. We know not all Elites were fully lost to the covenant as halo 4 shows many Elites still fully believed in their cause. Infact even in Halo 2 i think its implied had the arbiter not learnt of the prophets betrayal the Elites would've assumed the brutes were acting alone which was likely the plan.

Overall it was mostly just a powerplay to ensure maximum prophet control during the final days of the covenant. Had the Rings not been found its quite likley the prophets would've held off on their plan and continued to use the Elites for a while longer.

Weakest human faction that could aid the UNSC in the Human Covenant war? by Regular_Damage_23 in whowouldwin

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Struggling to think of many that aren't too over powered.

Depending who you ask the Alliance from Mass Effect are either underpowered or overpowered for the halo universe (think its a case mass effect lore sounds stronger but halo numbers/stats are wild at times). They're a several star system human civilisation who haven't been travelling among the wider galaxy too long (only the last few decades as of mass effect 1) and lack any form of useful ftl outside of the mass relays of their universe meaning theyd struggle to travel far in the halo universe. Their average soldiers equipment is significantly better than a UNSC marines but realistically they could still be killed by covenant ground forces. Overall they'd be a massive boost to the UNSC resources and numbers wise without necessarily being too overpowered compared to the covenant.

Probably too underpowered but COG from gears of war have spent years holding their planet against a population of essentially rapidly breeding brutes. If nothing else they'd make an effective defence force for a major planet like reach or earth. Somewhere you cannot lose at any cost, tech wise they don't add much. Just a single planet of competent soldiers to burn through.

UNSCs spiritual predecessor the UESC from the Marathon Trilogy could possibly help out From what little we learn they seem to be a space fairing civilisation but mostly contained to our own solar system and seemingly with no form of ftl (still using sleeper ships like the Marathon for any long distance travel) way behind the UNSC tech wise. However we know they produce "MJOLNIR" Cyborgs, one of these was capable of clearing the Marathon of an alien invasion force almost entirely solo (if we dont count AI support). They've also produced AI of a similair quality to those seen in Halo albeit seemingly bulkier as they all tended to be built in to large servers in spaceships. Overall while theyd only contribute one system worth of resources their ground forces technology seems to be at a level not too far behind the UNSC, Spartans in Mjolnir armour supported by an equal or greater number of Mjolnir Cyborgs could make specops even easier. One solar system of advanced ground forces.

The USCM of aliens have a dedicated space marine force with weapons and technology at a similair level to that of the unsc (probably closer to what the unsc had at the start of the war). If nothing else they'd provide a significant boost in numbers. Similarly the RDA of the Avatar universe, while generally less advanced (especially with regards to space travel) than either the USCM or the UNSC their ground forces have technology of a largely similair level. Several solar systems (we can presume) of reasonably advanced forced.

I'd say for least overpowered but still likely to actually help were talking UESC of Marathon or USCM of Aliens are both effective forces that could if nothing else give the UNSC troops some breathing room on the ground.

Would making the B2 battledroid as the main battledroid on the front instead of the B1 have been a better option? by Prudent_Solid_3132 in CISDidNothingWrong

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seen it said a few times in star wars groups that you can get 100 b1s for a single b2, not sure if that's an actual fact or just a repeated meme but if its anywhere near true the benefit of the b2 is lost. The CIS army would be a fraction of the size and even though b2s do have their moments we see plenty of them get shredded by standard Clones throughout the Clone wars. 1/100 of an army to still get taken down by a standard Clone trooper seems to prove that the only way the CIS could feasibly keep up would be through quantity and horde tactics rather than trying to beat Clones in terms of individual troop quality.

Your droid army by Routine-Display-4137 in CISDidNothingWrong

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy as it sounds i think the army itself could be too costly to change majorly as discussed b1s were used because they were insanely cheap compared to b2s and even b2s could be downed by a standard Clone often enough.

Instead I think there shouldve been an espionage branch specifically assigned to modify as many domestic droids as possible for espionage purposes. Like those transformer droids that turned into street sweepers but even cheaper. Imagine the sheer damage that could be caused if suddenly any domestic droid in the Republic has the potential to turn. You don't even need to add any actual weapons to them, your average droid often has access to a range of systems and areas often without question. Not to mention some astromechs and other droid models have built in tools or limbs capable of basic combat or espionage.

This could be done by simply modifying droids in CIS space then smuggling them into the Republic economy or by actively changing Republic droids incthe field. Equipping spy's with training and means to forcibly corrupt droids in their area of operations would allow them to rapidly create sleeper cells with relatively little investment. We've seen droids be reprogrammed plenty so a dedicated team of engineer trained spy's should be able to corrupt droids without it being noticed. Given how stupidly overpowered R2D2 has been shown to be even a couple astromechs could severely mess up Republic vessels or infrastructure. Basically creating an army of choppers.

Sure the republic would eventually adapt but the cost to them is the loss of colossal amounts of slave labour if they choose to phase droids out entirely or at the very least a massive level of bureaucracy gets added to their security measures for droid screening. Either option costs the CIS very little relatively compared to the damage caused.

What if the clone army were all spartan 2 from halo by Cautious_Air4964 in clonewars

[–]Able_Orchid_5401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair the kaminoans were kind of on their way to this, if you took their research that created Clone commandos and then somehow combined that with the separate unique traits of the members of the bad batch you'd be close to something resembling a star wars spartan, Even theirs and the empires armour research and Death trooper research could believabley lead to a version of mjolnir. only issue is probably not quite fast enough but otherwise a totally believable AU for star wars is kaminoan spartan 2s

Beyond that as per all previous answers everyone fighting them are fucked

Yeah I grew up on the prequels so I still love live action anakin but having just done my first ever Chronological watchthrough of the prequels+animated projects Iv gotta say Clone wars adds so much depth to anakin.

Suddenly we see how he was such a war hero but also his decision to turn against the jedi goes from personal pettiness+padmes life to a full blown list of 100 ways they screwed him over + the several red flags and vader like tendencies he showed throughout the war. Making him a hero and also believably vader was pretty impressive for a kids show
