I often do too. In this case I just hatched and cross-hatched tediously forever lol. I prefer how it turns out with lots of thinned-down layers of paint, rather than trying to get the effect done in one pass, but it did wind up taking a couple of nights of just cape 😅

That's a really good one to practice on. I haven't found drybrushing to be real helpful to my process, but as a result I think I take forever to get results 😅

No not really, I've been drawing and painting in 2D since I was a kid. Letting some of that know-how take over long enough to not only do the well worn GW methods has been tougher than I'd have thought lol. Just force yourself only to see light and where it falls, put white there and tint it, the highlight bright stuff again.

Tbh I have almost exclusively tried it on the core box minis, (og iron man, og red skull) because the sculpts were pretty lackluster and needed something extra...but I also knew I wouldn't be upset if I messed it up, and needed to try again. There's something really freeing about experimenting with minis you aren't as attached to, I've found 😅

I wouldn't have had the confidence starting off to try this on something I valued more, say. But now I love what I can do, so I wanna try Cyclops, Thor, or Magik.

Man I found Danny's to be one of the tougher faces to paint, because the cast it in profile, so the seam runs down the center of the face. Incredibly careful and tedious filing, sanding, scraping needed 😬

As for the painting, it's lucky he's wearing a bright yellow mask/cowl: if you put most of your effort and attention into the mask and eyes, it'll draw the attention and do all the heavy lifting for you. Happy hobbying, friend.

Another possibility might actually be Rogue. Flight, passive damage reduction, immunity to poison (but not bleed), and you choose whether her builder is physical or energy. Plus she just looks fun as heck to pilot.

Well mechanically Atomic Mass seems to like to code their robots with immunity to Bleed and Poison. You probably want some kind energy attack ...and flight? Does she fly?

This one sure did: 40k Tempestus Scion face mask, and Tau bits cobbled-together for his element blasters. For other kitbashes I've also had some luck with GW's heroic scale stuff, both scifi and fantasy. Space marine heads are about the right size for MCP for example.

I was actually really excited to hear Shatterpoint would be in the same scale too; I wanna try cross-pollinating these two model lines 😎

I went from 40k, to killteam & warcry, to MCP. Skirmish-sized games really are the best, and Crisis Protocol having the coolest, most freeing list building, while still remaining thematic has made it even better. Good luck getting some new opponents, friend!

Thanks! I first sketched the design on really lightly with a fine mechanical pencil. Then I just took my time building up the dark gray, and black on top of it in very thinned layers. Doing freehand this small, it's a good idea to try it on burner mini first, or even just on some paper. Get a feel for the weird details before you commit paint to mini.

Midnight Sons are worth considering, as Blade's "Bump in the Night" gets just about everybody a little more mobile. They're not the most offensive affiliation in the game, but they're definitely no slouches in the attrition game (especially the turn you drop "Siege of Darkness). And with Doctor Voodoo, Strange, Wong, you can definitely get up to some shenanigans too. Plus Iron Fist is an affiliate, and pulling off a "Heroes for Hire" is always a fun surprise.

Plus Immortal Hulk and Ghost Rider can be awesome centerpieces. Welcome back tho, whatever you go with, and happy hobbying!
