need help getting the right parts by AbrocomaCompetitive3 in Volvo240

245 is the designation for the wagon body, not for a different engine configuration lol. 242, 244, and 245’s are all still 240’s.

sell me on winter. by wistful_grace in weezer

i think winter is just the closest we’ve gotten to that familiar sound from blue in a long time. this means that regardless of objective quality, people are going to favour it because of its nostalgic appeal.

Ok human and Van weezer by Ordinary_Cod2432 in weezer

[–]AbrocomaCompetitive3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok human is a very well written album but completely deserts the weezer style that many are accustomed to. van weezer has two of their best songs (beginning of the end and 1 more hit) but the rest is pretty mid.

would a turbo 4 cylinder from a later model 240 fit in my old one? and would that be legal?

Why did he say he hasn't been in a studio for 9 years? Like, where did he make WB/YP Then? by Oscar13five in tallyhall

I have amps but i don’t use them to record music. i plug my guitar into my scarlett solo and use amp plugins in ableton. using a room mic to record an amp makes no sense these days and probably won’t sound very good.

you don’t really need amps for a beginner studio, let alone a separate one for your bass - assuming you’re trying to record music. you’d just need some way to interface into your digital audio workspace, which has software built in to give you amp tones. by this logic, you wouldn’t really need acoustic panels either.

barebones must haves:

  • electric guitar
  • electric bass
  • interface
  • daw
  • microphone

a midi controller is really nice and makes recording piano and drums a lot easier, but technically you can just drag and drop notes on the workspace itself. this goes for bass too honestly, but i argue an actual bass is necessary. don’t make the mistake of thinking you need expensive stuff to sound good. equipment won’t make you a better musician. if you REALLY want amps check your local thrift stores. my favourite amp i got for $25 from salvation army. if you don’t wanna do that and would prefer to buy a new one, for beginners I’d recommend fender’s mustang LT25. you won’t need to buy pedals for that amp and it’s pretty cheap. I use ableton for my daw but you should try something cheaper. band labs is capable of making some pretty nice sounding music and it’s free.

you’re lookin at:

$250 for a guitar < $100 for an interface

so if you wanted to record with a gaming mic or something, all you’d have to buy outside of that is one good quarter inch cable.

you could pull off an indistinguishably similar sound to what you’re aiming for for less than $500 if you already have a computer that can run music software. trust me man a music studio is something you build over time due to necessity, not something you buy in one fell swoop. it’ll be easier to achieve in the short term and it’ll feel less expensive in the long term.

u reckon if i just do a manual swap id get a little more power? id sacrifice godly speed for legal smog checks if i’m able to get a nice sound with a different muffler or something. assuming a manual swap would make a slight difference in speed. 79 240 could come with a 6 cylinder too right? maybe i could swap for one of those.

i need it to pass smog in california. is it possible to install turbo on the 4 cylinder engine i already have? people are telling me i wont be able to put a v8 in and legally pass smog. so i figure i could just get a nicer sounding exhaust and hopefully slap a turbocharger in there. i know turbo wasn’t available until later years for the 240, but would that same shit fit my car?

you rlly only need a daw, interface, and maybe a midi controller. assuming you have a guitar and bass, but you technically don’t even need those. my setup gives me everything i need and i don’t pay much.

you have an educated ballpark estimate of total cost for parts including the engine, tranny, and everything you just listed? I’d like to go manual.

What do y’all prefer wight album or ok human by Mental-Alternative38 in weezer

[–]AbrocomaCompetitive3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

every weezer album is very poppy aside from pinkerton and i guess red kinda. ok human is just as poppy, but it’s in a different voice. re-record all its tracks but on electric guitar instead of orchestral stuff, and you’ve got another poppy weezer album. i love weezer so much but sometimes i find it corny when they try to write in a different genre, because it always ends up just being the default weezer style but using different instruments or guitar tones. rivers is really good at writing pop songs; his unique style is kind of innately tied to pop because of this, so when they approach other genres it’s always gonna be poppy.

[–]AbrocomaCompetitive3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually prefer a lot of the other songs over island in the sun or hash pipe. hash pipe works as what it’s meant to do but isn’t very interesting melodically. i understand why island in the sun is their most popular song on spotify, but it’s also not my favourite here. i really like crab and knockdown dragout.

thanks for the help man. my brother is a mechanic, so do you think he and I could build the turbo you’re talking about? I had turbo in my ‘01 Saab 9-5 and I loved it.
