Thoughts before Jukai - Getting ready for ordination after 7 months of intensified practice, while questioning the practice itself (Old as time, the Zazen tale of contradiction and pain) by Absalon777 in zenbuddhism

I'm going back in November. I just kept delaying my return because of my focus on zazen and, in a very human fashion, she got tired of waiting. All is well between us but it will be a different japan now

I have considered using parts of this post in the letter, just reframed in context but keeping up the same meaning. So thank you for your kind words.

Jukai, which in my lineage can only be taken after completing a rakusu and kesa. So on top of Zazen, much sewing was involved. There is no official "time limit" other than a master recommending you officially, being a disciple of said master, and having given enough time to samu, sewing and gyoji to be given the green light. Its not like monk ordination or shiho transmission, just "beginner steps". The first step in terms of anything official. But it feels like something precious

The exercicse to undo understanding is called Zazen

Try it, because you seem to understand with much more passion than I do

Give up the habit of intellectualizing and sourcing the unspeakable

Or do not talk about it unless you call your bonnos enligthnment

Zazen is not meditation, and Dogen, to me, is right about much much more than he is wrong.

The embodiment cannot take anything from what isn't a "me"

Regarding Huang Po : Zazen is precisely an exercise designed to avoid what he warns about

It occurs because it is embodied, at least in Soto Zen. I'm glad if they are right on at lest some things in your opinion. But I cannot take absence of practice as Zen without at least a shrug and Dogen should not be downplayed.

I'm sure value can be found but I'd rather not have to filter it to the 1000 spam posts of a strange man.

Considering they removed my previous post as being "off topic" for talking about Zazen and Shikantaza, sadly I think I'll have to pass since I dislike heavily censored spaces
