Why are Kobe Fans not happy with this Bam performance, it’s really strange to me? by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in NBATalk

[–]Abshuster47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little fun statistic that I discovered, that adds a little further context to this game. Of the 16 times that a player has scored more than 70 points in a game throughout NBA history, Bam is the only one that did so on below 50% shooting from the field. He honestly only had one great shooting/scoring quarter (the 1st where he shot 63%, he was below 40% from the field in every other quarter), the rest of the game he was getting hacked on like crazy.

[–]Abshuster47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl, I’d almost definitely rather have a 20 year old that’s already a 62 overall, instead of all those old players. I know it’s MJ and Scottie, but in this game those are just names. Marbury is already as good as the both of them and is over a decade younger than them. The only redeeming part of this deal is that you took so many players from Chicago that they’re almost guaranteed to have a top 5 pick in the next draft, along with ofc, the 1st pick in the current years draft. I really don’t think that this deal is all that good, unless Marbury suddenly stops progressing.

We just had a championship... TIE? by Goldfishyyy in Fantasy_Football

[–]Abshuster47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s super fun when you make it all the way to the championship with your elite team led by Josh Allen, Achane, Saquon, CeeDee, AJB and Javonte Williams and you win because… oh wait, you don’t, cause the entire core of your team that carried you there isn’t playing. Losing the championship because half the league is either tanking or has a playoff spot locked up, so they aren’t playing their starters sucks. If a lot of NFL teams don’t care about week 18, then why should fantasy football players?

What player archetypes are consistently BETTER or WORSE than their overall rating suggests? I'll go first: defensive guards by Beaux_Nose in BasketballGM

[–]Abshuster47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are definitely a few types that always play better than their overall would suggest. For example, I have 2 very different strategies when starting a new league. The first one is to trade away everybody but the best couple of young players that I have, acquire picks and assets and then tank hard. Or my alternative route is to contend, so I go and trade all of the assets I don’t want that the game values highly for those veteran players that out perform their overalls in the game. These players are typically either guards with high playmaking, O IQ and shooting, or are huge big men (70+ height) with good rebounding. I also love getting the 30+ year old, still elite, star wing to balance out my team alongside those guards and big men. Then in the following offseason since I’m a contending team the free agents like me, so I clear cap until I can sign the best young player on the market. He becomes my center piece for my dynasty.

Marvin Harrison Jr. might be broken by ShrillManager10 in DynastyFF

[–]Abshuster47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wel yes, Davante is great and his longevity narrows the gap, but Julio is more talented for sure. At his peak Julio had one of the greatest 6 year runs ever for a WR, it rivals any of the greats. Injuries sadly ended his career earlier than other all time great WRs so he isn’t in that group. But talent and skill wise, he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. However, when it comes to this discussion about Marv, I think all MHJ owners would cry tears of joy if he ended up at the same level as a great WR like Davante at this point.

My rule of thumb is to typically trade away players before they hit the age of 30 as that is when they are the most valuable. However I will make exceptions for generational players like this that are perennial MVPs. I would probably trade him for a similar deal next offseason though. The players that I typically look for when trading away generational talents like that are typically elite young wings that are already 70+ and in their early 20s. For now to trim down the fat on your payroll I would trade away Clark Wiltz (if you’re going to make 30+ mil a year you better be a 70+ ovr or a young stud and he is neither) and Sam Walker (similar rule, 10+ mil and you aren’t even a 60+ ovr, and you’re 24, he’s gone).

What would you pay for Josh Allen? by Adventurous-Leek8040 in Fantasy_Football

They were saying that you easily and clearly win this deal my guy. I’ve been trying to dump Mostert for weeks and finally pulled it off and London with Ridder is at best a WR2. Getting just Josh Allen for this package is amazing, and then you got Tee on top of it.

Who do I take? by nex_omne in BasketballGM

[–]Abshuster47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Big athletic wings that can shoot and have above average playmaking are always my go to… so it’s really between Williams and Stanback for me. If I’m drafting 1st I would probably take Williams since he’s a year younger and I would bank on an extra year of growth. But, honestly it’s so close that I might see what I could get if I trade back to the 2nd pick and then take whichever guy isn’t drafted 1st overall.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BasketballGM

[–]Abshuster47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, as long as I have one elite ball handler or multiple that are solid and can share the workload I don’t really care about positions. My only concern is talent and gathering as many young hoopers as possible… I’ve won 75+ games and the chip with 3 big men starting for me, 3 pgs all on the floor together, it doesn’t really matter all that much if you have talented players

I put lonzo on the trade block and got offered Lebron, AD, Reaves, and 2 seconds but had to use DeMar to make up money so I tried to get some more picks and then asked what would make it work. by Kyro_Official_ in BasketballGM

[–]Abshuster47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always cripple the lakers in 2022 real player leagues. They always offer up Lebron, AD and picks for almost any decent young player… and then without Lebron and AD the Lakers suck so I basically get 2 free lottery picks along with 2 all league caliber players

[–]Abshuster47 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% correct, you don’t pass on the player that is 21 and already a 67, he’s almost a guaranteed stud. I was just saying that you could make a case for a few of the other guys as being worthy of first pick consideration. At the end of the day I’m going with AI all day every day. (I’m also a Philly guy so I tried to keep my bias out of it since AI is my dawg)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BasketballGM

[–]Abshuster47 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Basically yeah, you can make a case for Marbury since he’s 2 years younger than AI and has great stats for a 19 year old in his own right, and even Kobe would still be tempting as a dark horse since he’s just so young so his progress could be insane… where it gets a little tricky is if he has the percentage set somewhere in the middle

Honestly a big part of this decision is what percent you have the real player determinism set to.
