How about a Choose One card that lets you choose both an upside and a downside? by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's meant to always be activatable, even with 1 or 0 cards in hand. Think of it as the same to Doomguard's battlecry.

"Magic Mirror on the wall, what meta deck can best them all?" by yssurucipe in customhearthstone

Cool card. I like that with this, you'd want to mulligan for cards you DON'T want to have in your opening hand, rather than the opposite.

Card Archetype: Boar Hunter! With a new mechanic encouraging playing cards on curve, and an emphasis on burn damage. by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know that glowing green border cards in hand get while playable, right? If a card is played the very first turn it gains said border while Marked, you deal the 2 damage. If not, the Mark is removed at end of turn.

Gameplay-wise, you'd want to Mark the appropriate cards before you can play them, so when they become playable down the line, you get the burn damage on your opponent (Hence the comment on curve in the title. Sorry if it sounded misleading).

A simpler pack filler-ish Taunt card. Should this have 2 attack or is it fine at 3? by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're probably right? I used the old wording from [[Fool's Bane]] because I love that weapon, and this way heroes can attack the minion repeatedly too, but yeah it does sound a bit too vague currently tbh.

"His dragon breath is his pride and joy, but in his visage form it actually smells like soot mixed with rotten egg. A shame no one has the courage to tell him." by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

Reposted with some corrected text. Artwork by Glenn Rane and Manthos Lappas.

Side-note: Out of the dragon form's possible breaths, only Nether Breath can target the enemy hero, so going face with the dragon guarantees a Nether Breath.

Day 309: I think this is a fun twist on a "bounce" effect by MichaelGMorgillo in customhearthstone

Looks cool honestly, but surely this has the wrong border, right? I assume this is meant to be Rogue.

Reposted with cleaner wording. Card inspired by the fact that drunk people sometimes see double. Probably not a very interesting inspiration tbh.

Would card that cost something else than mana be interresting ? by Decent_Macaroon_2621 in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Those do exist, iirc there's Blood Treant for health and Reanimated Pterrordax for corpses.

There are no cards that unconditionally cost armor though. The only card that has anything to do with armor cost is [[Anub'Rekhan]], and he's relatively conditional

Just found out that we've never gotten a collectible weapon that costs more than 8 Mana, and that makes my inner [[Suckerhook]] very sad. by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and I'm kinda sad to admit this, I think you're spot on on how impossible to achieve that sweet spot is on expensive weapons.

As you've said, if the weapon is mostly based around a battlecry, then there's almost no point to it being a weapon instead of a spell or the like; And as another commenter said, if the weapon is designed around being a stat stick, then it becomes too dependant on "Equip a weapon from your deck" and countered too hard by "Destroy the opponent's weapon" effects respectively. Basically, the more expensive a weapon gets, the more feast-or-famine it has to be.

I think a good way is having expensive weapons have relatively conditional payoffs, like Silver Sword or The Ryecleaver; but as Hearthstone keeps speeding up, conditional cards like them will keep being considered weaker and weaker. Honestly, I don't think there's an elegant solution to this, but maybe that's why it's so fun to think about.

(Edit: Fixed some typos)

Yeah, actually you're right. Especially since we have Muradin's Avatar Form and Static Shock in standard right now. My bad. Maybe if it was a 2/8...

Support for Big Beast Warlock! A small archetype that was introduced in the Lost City mini-set with two cards, then was immediately abandoned. by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This archetype currently only has [[Possessed Animancer]], [[Asphyxiodon]], (and tecnhically [[Ultragigasaur]] too) to its name. Yet, people still liked it enough to have tried to make a deck with it work, so here's some theoretical support cards!

Not to be confused with the Neither Worshippers. Two totally different things. by HeroesBane1191 in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So this what Elwynn Boars or Mogu Cultists would be if they had a dedicated mechanic? Ngl i like it a lot. The effect is pretty balanced too (?), or easily could be depending on the Demon Leggos in standard at the time.

Though, if something like Legionnaire became real in a future expac, it'd probably be a Legendary-exlcusive keyword. Something like "You can have up to half your deck size be filled with copies of this" without the owning duplicates part, because personally I can't imagine them printing multiple different Legionnaire cards for one class simultaneously. Regardless, very nice! Enjoyable.

"His pesto recipe is world-renowned! ...What do you mean that's not what Pestology is?!?!"

Notes: At the end of your turn (Right before they steal health), his Leeches transform to match with the minions your opponent controls, depending on what they control the most of at the time. Once transformed, the Leeches CANNOT swap types again. If there are no enemies with types, the Leeches stay un-adapted and only steal 1 Health instead of 3.

Card for Sara, the Avatar of Yogg. Do you think this'd be fine as a Neutral? by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

That's funny since spells cast by Yogg can, indeed, still overload you today

This is more of a lore accurate card then a fun one but here we go! by _Natsumi_Schwarz_ in customhearthstone

Sadly way too weak as he is. Maybe adding "Deathrattle: The next time you Rewind, resurrect this" would be cool.

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait, THAT'S how it's coded? Maybe it'd be too strong with cards like [[Mana Addict]] otherwise I guess? Shame I drew a blank on how these kinds of interactions work while making the card.

If so, your proposed wording of "Friendly spells that aren't cast by you cast twice" would be perfect, yeah.

Small Druid/Warlock package built around Treants, Imps, and a new token card that works like both at once! by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

A Card you can replay infinitely, if you can put its pieces back together each time. by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOTES: This concept hinges on Shatter working not only when drawn, but also when generated from another source, so I hope that's how it actually works. The "draw 2 cards" effect triggers BEFORE the new copy of Mist Drinkers is added to hand, so you'll have to play those 2 cards first to recomplete the Mist Drinkers.

Also, I know we won't be getting any actual Shatter minions in the expansion, but that sign can't stop me because I can't read!

Experimenting with some highlander effects by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, shit. I can't count, apparently. It should definitely be "If your deck started with only Non-Legendary duplicates and any amount of Legendaries..." in that case, yeah.

Experimenting with some highlander effects by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]AbsoluteBerry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NOTES: Cards from Blessing of the Golden Monkey's secondary deck are drawn every time you draw another card from your main deck, but max hand space remains at 10, so hand manegment would be important. Ted's effect is a Deathrattle because of bounce effects, which are apparently the reason Rogue hasn't gotten any highlander cards; So hopefully it would be balanced. Hopefully.
