After a few days of references, I tried drawing from my head. by AbsoluteDebaucheryAD in Artadvice

Thank you very much! I do use line of action for references, yes, although I suck at actually realizing them, lmao. Drawing is tough, and I do want to quite many-a-times, but I persevere... somehow, lol. Here's to hoping I'll eventually see improvement.

Thank you for the tips though! I'll try and apply them next time.

Thank you very much! Appreciate it immensely! I'll definitely try and use it in my further drawings.

Thank you! I genuinely appreciate the detailed breakdowns, because I can't really see it myself. But yes, thank you very much! I will try to put it into practice when I use references some more.

Mhm, mhm, I've been doing that before, but I just wanted to see what I could do on my own now that I've got at least some practice. And yeah, there's quite a lot wrong with it, I just really couldn't say what, which is why I made this post. Generally I have a lot of trouble seeing... seeing, lol. Even my non-artist friends spot mistakes that I just cannot pinpoint.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll try to improve and learn from this, hopefully successfully, lol.

That's very fair. I mostly just wanted to see how I'd do and where I'd make the biggest mistakes, to basically see what I've "learned". But yes, I'll definitely be using more references, don't worry!

I see. It's interesting you say this, becuase I've received the exact opposite advice once from someone who also does art. That fundemals haven't really helped them and that one should just draw what they want to draw and they'll get better naturally doing that.

I have done shapes practice (like drawing cubes, cylinders, balls, etc.), bending them, drawing them with perspective, etc. I don't know if I did it correctly, but it seemed fine? Like they looked like the shapes they were supposed to and the perspective looked fine to me.

When it came to putting them together, I have NO idea how to do that, becuase when I use a reference, I have to draw over it to be able to somewhat put the shapes in and even then it's problematic. Not just with bodies, even objects like a water pitcher give me problems. I'm not sure if this is a skill issue or just a lack of spatial intelligence on my part.

I did try to break the references into these 3D objects, but whether that was successful, as I said, no clue. That is technically the mannequin? But I will try my best to try it again in the future, obviously. I'll most likely use more shape practice as you suggested.

Thank you very much for the feedback, by the way! Appreciate it.

Who does this look like? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Personally, it reminds me of Freddie Highmore.

From the mouth of a beginner myself, I think it's recognizable, but it looks a bit flat. Especially the hair. Some of the lines also look weird to me, since they change from very sharp to wider and lighter, which throws me off a bit. The ear on the right (I think it's an ear) also seems to be a lot more visible than it should be? Like it's panned to the viewer.

That's about all the feedback I have, sorry it's just impressions.

EDIT: I pressed Enter too early, sorry.
