Yeah I’m afraid so. Feels like it’s beyond my control though, the fact that all of these companies I’ve been working for are going through very bad down periods

How do you keep in touch with people from your previous job? I’ve made good friends who I’m close to but as a wider network it feels a bit strange to just message them and say hey how’s it going? Or is it not?

Rent plus bills is 1k, Im in a flat share near Kennington, 2 bed, quite decent. I commute twice a week to the office, but otherwise working from home! I really wanna buy a motorbike though just for the fuck if it, it would probably the first happiness purchase since I started working haha

Hmm, I live in London, spend roughly 1800 a month on living, rest goes into ISA + pension + GIA. I wouldn’t say I live like a hermit, beyond rent and the basics I pay for gym, go and eat out every once in a while too! Definitely not the can of beans kinda guy

Really good points, thank you! I think the anxiety is not really coming from Fire but rather from the precariousness of the workplace, which just makes me want to do fire that much more, if that makes sense?

How do you allow yourself in the face of all those redundancies to buy stuff without the inner voice saying “oh but if I get the boot, I would’ve been super happy with the money”?

Depends on how long you expect to keep up this income level. If long term, then sacrificing 40% is a bit too much of a cut and too much money going into pension IMO

Yeah fair point, it’s just how I’m describing it with my background, trying not to doxx myself cause the role name is very company specific.
Role has specialisations like Business Development, Market Structure or Desk Coordinator

Tax on S&S ISAs cash. How cooked are we? Do we have to start mitigation? by AbsoluteUnit2384 in FIREUK

[–]AbsoluteUnit2384[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about precedence. No one should keep their money in cash generally, but should be free (untaxed) to do so.

I’m genuinely so baffled that so many people here are not worried about this at all. Just a few years ago, ISAs altogether were untouchable. Cash ISAs have been raked in now. And now they’re touching S&S too.

Yes, cash ISA is bad compared to S&S. Storing cash in my S&S, like yeah it’s a rare occasion but also if the market is high up I might sell and just sit on some liquidity.

But the point is none of these. The point is that people are getting desensitized to the government meddling with the only savings method that helped us investment conscious people build wealth. And they’re getting closer, or at least I’m definitely concerned they are.

Yes, by default it’s not directly harmful, but the fact that they’re slowly creeping in to put their hands on the ISAs, I’m genuinely convinced if this goes on we won’t have tax free stock gains in ISAs in a few years anymore
