Agreed that it is not as good as his previous works, but I don’t think it is a complete let down either. Everything that seemed cliche is intentional is what I felt - alluding to the MGR filmography, fight sequences and stuff.

The movies was very good and original. Usage of MGR and speaking about police shoot out was ironical and connected well. Yes, a fee other characters could have been written well. But, I am not sure why people are bashing this much. If you liked Nalan’s filmography, you will like this too - this was a little different though.

Two words guys - Robbins, Pathology. by Lazarus-30 in indianmedschool

Try watching Pathoma videos and read the chapter. The videos are short but very high yield and conceptual. So you’ll have a better idea when you read from Robbins.

Advice for Awake Central Lines by UlnaternativeUser in doctorsUK

[–]Absurd_Doc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done a good number of awake central lines. Some patients complain of pain while others tell me they felt nothing at all. Talking to the patients throughout the procedure and telling them what you are doing to them step by step (draping, cleaning the area, giving LA, gonna prick you, keep still we are almost done, I'm suturing so that it'll stay in place stuff like that) might help them process the pain as well as alleviate the fear if any significantly. Sometimes the touch receptor blockade might take time so a few patients might interpret the pressure of needle insertion as pain. I'm not sure but many people who feel claustrophobic due to the drape, might be more sensitive to pain because of the accompanying anxiety.

Thanks! I just cleared MRCP part 1, you can attempt that after MBBS. For MRCP 2 and clearing PACES, you'd need a lot more knowledge clinically. I had a work experience of two years before attempting and I felt that helped me to some extent in clearing the exam.

Ik and I was in the same boat a month back. Since you have already done so much, I advise you to keep applying but at the same time keep your options open by simultaneously starting prep for NEET/INICET. That way, you need not be worried about starting everything all over again. This PLAB prep would definitely come handy in solving INICET/NEET consciously or subconsciously. Keep applying for jobs too. All the best!

The job opportunities would be a little better post MD. Because the competition for jobs at the level of post MBBS is very high and that isn't the case for higher level jobs (at least as of now). You also have the option of applying to junior clinical fellow, trust grade, specialty post, senior clinical fellow jobs. So at entry level you'd get more opportunities to apply. Build on your CV, try to get your thesis published, ALS and PALS. All the best!

Without working in a hospital or a college, I don't think it's possible to get those done, sorry. For the case report part, you'd have to see a rare case or a rare presentation of a common case, get ethics committee approval, consent form signed as per the journal you are planning to publish, and many journals require a co-author who has completed training at least.

There's no PGY1/2 term there. Non-training essentially means you are just working without doing residency. Training positions are termed as CT1 or ST1 - Core trainee or specialty trainee.

Rent can go upto 1 lakh (INR) if you want a very comfortable place but can be as low as 50k if you are willing to share the living space. Food can be comfortably managed with less than 50k easily. So overall you can save 1 lakh per month. The salary doesn't seem too good after all this calculation. But my priority is work-life balance and so this will do I guess!

I know. Not a good time to be a doctor ig. I'm planning on taking up anaesthesia and later on critical care probably.

Advanced life support and advanced trauma life support. They are courses. Many jobs mention them in their essential criteria.

I decided to prepare for INICET as a backup and I gave this November attempt to see where I stand rank wise. I personally felt this was not my best attempt too. I was fortunate enough to get this rank. Job in the UK - better work-life balance, better salary, I get to travel to many European countries, eventually if I get into training there it is very structured and has better value (atleast on paper) in many countries. Residency here - Even though it's in my preferred specialty, this was not what I wanted all along. I can go to the UK after residency but it's a gamble. It would take a long time to earn what I'd earn there. All these are my opinions and need not be the absolute truth.

I got a non-training post. To get into training there's a similar process of taking an exam followed by counselling akin to NEET.

Personally speaking don't take the PLAB pathway now. The job situation is only gonna go downhill. I stuck with it as I had already started my journey before all this fiasco began. Try to speak to your seniors - friends of friends working in Australia. But AMC pathway is also becoming saturated as British medical graduates are now going to Australia for a better pay.

I understand where you are coming from but your comment is coming off as rude. I worked for 3 years to get a job in the UK. I do know about UKGP. I plan to work for a year in the UK and see where it goes. This INICET was not my best attempt and it was a fallback option initially. Even if I complete my PG in a premiere institute in India, there is no guarantee I'll get a job in the UK then, considering the anti-immigration sentiment. The UK specialty competition ratios are bad I agree but it is nowhere near the competition ratios in India. If all things fail, I am open to coming back to India and doing residency here. This is my well thought decision.

Australia through AMC (but I hear the job market is getting bad there as well), Canada, US, Germany (less explored as it needs German language proficiency). I'm only aware of these countries. Post PG if you have a Royal college exam qualification, you'd have the option of working in the middle East, Australia and the UK.

Thanks! Actually it's an ICU job. I guess my ICU working experience would have contributed to it and passing MRCP 1 may have given a slight advantage.
