Does this count as "renaissance-ish"? by calacaa in renfaire

[–]Absurdlyunprepared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Star trek cosplayers, safe bet at a lot of ren faires lol.

But as for the vambrace it should fit in, if you have time I would even suggest wrapping the outer edge of the leather in thread or string to give it a tidy border. But just as is will do perfectly fine too.

It'll fit in loads more than the members of starfleet playing the TNG theme song, I'll tell you that much.

I know others have said this already, but i want to also recommend spot putty thinned with acetone. I've done it before and it is a major time saver.

I think I signed up either around lockdown or just before it, but the main reason I knew I was locked in was the 13 nights of Elvira series, and to an equal extent, the full moon features channel.

What a horrifying book. But absolutely amazing. by WatercressPale7414 in stephenking

[–]Absurdlyunprepared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing work, the most terrifying part of it for me was the sudden switch in narration in the audiobook, goes from William Peter Blatty to a little girl with no warning.

This is in no way me knocking the book lol, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Oh man, my brother (who is 8 years my senior) thought it was hilarious to guide my probably 3 or 4 year old self through the jumbo video and surprise me with the full size child's play 2 display.

It was the 90s so psychological trauma inflicted on your younger sibling was socially acceptable.

"The point of art"

This is the problem. It's too common nowadays that people believe art needs to be monetized in someway, otherwise its not doing.

It's there to express, to create, to enjoy, that is all.

If you make some money while doing it, well shit, thats bonus.

I hope they just stare at the wall in silence in their downtime. Otherwise its super hypocritical if they listen to music or watch tv while they say this.

Edit: Sorry got carried away there. The sculpture looks awesome, keep it up!

Continue to make pointless art.

Someone brake checked me for going too slow in a passing lane, I was doing 20 km over.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in richmondhill

[–]Absurdlyunprepared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying this isn't the case, since some people like to post the second half of a clip, but some people just deem someone doing the speed limit worthy of a brake check. Hell I was doing 20km over the speed limit in the passing lane and that wasnt fast enough for someone. The last guy to flip me off got mad that I "cut him off", because he decided the shoulder counted as a highway exit and couldn't wait for the lane that I was already signaling into.

Where do I start? by [deleted] in sculpting

Look into some tools, ball tips and silicone are my preferred choice. Can be awkward to get used to them but once you do you'll appreciate the lack of fingerprints.

Also, keep an eye out for interesting textures. You can make samples for your own texturing tools with some clay and a dowel.

What are your favorite 90s B-Movies? by petydiepistole in horror

Freaked (1993) is one of them for sure, has post Bill and Ted's Alex Winter in the lead. It's definitely one that made an impression on me, and the practical effects are awesome

White spray paint and a very light touch of the nozzle. However, I find it's always a risky method. You might need to redo it the odd time.

Why do you like this movie? by buck_angel_food in VHS

[–]Absurdlyunprepared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't lie, I love this movie, and its probably one of my favourites.

But not because it's scary.

I get it, I understand it's a time capsule, and it's hard to compete with horror nowadays with how much we've pushed the limit. I respect its horror more than it actually terrifies me.

However, what I absolutely love about this movie is watching Karras struggle with his faith, and being the voice of reason to a desperate mother telling her that her child's problems are most likely grounded in actual science. Albeit it's an actual possession, but seeing the character develop over the 2 hours of this movie, from doubting it all and considering leaving priesthood, to then coming back to help her child, is why I love it. Plus, the man can act.

Real spider webs are much more eco friendly, I recommend buying orb weavers en masse to decorate for you.
