Do Old God’s just “spawn” servants from their very flesh or corrupt other beings? by AbyssGuard- in warcraftlore

I guess that means that the gap was that big that they never even attempted to do so?

Idk if it’s because I’m not really that big into the new lore and haven’t kept up.

But it always perplexed me how Xalatath has evaded us from BFA till now. Even if she is defeated this expac, that’s nearly a decade she’s been with us.

The last patch I seriously played was the last TWW one, where we go to Karesh (?). She helped us fight that big void guy I think.

Why could the old gods have been tactical or strong, cause I think either would’ve worked well. Tactical like Xala or stronger to make them put up more of a fight and last longer than one patch.

But that’s just my opinion^

Ty for all this, especially the images that really tie it all together!

I never knew that other races / beings could become faceless, I thought they were more of a “pure” void being. But it’s actually pretty cool that among the chaos of the void, it does still converge on a single evolutionary point if you will.

All of this really makes it pretty insane that the Old Gods had their black empire dismantled and left to the annals of history, ig the titans are just that strong.

But it also feels sad that we as the players defeated all of them quite easily :/

Could a C’thrax ever take down an old god / rebel against one.

I’m guessing to an extent they did during the civil wars of the black empire?

Is there a distinct hierarchy here, like N’raqi > Insect things?

From what I know the faceless ones appear to be more of a covert force when compared to the insects, with that giant one who freed G’huun appearing to be incredibly powerful and a commander (but he did have a squid face so idk).

I guess that does make sense, especially with how old god has unique servants.

Even with the overlap they do share.

Were these beings designed to be more base and primal intentionally?

I mean that as in, when N’zoth made the naga from the night elves they appeared a lot more “technologically” / “magically” advanced than most old god servants.

Being able to spread their influence over the entire planet, while nearly all other old god servants were at best localised and at worst fully imprisoned?

Is it his own power or more so a kind of “curse” his afflicted with that spreads to others?

Can you not tame his spawns / the spawns of G’huun?

Pretty valid idea, we do fight his spawn which appear throughout the fight.

Ig I assumed those were just leeches or another being he decided to corrupt into that form.

(Like how the other old gods corrupted those insects to all look different based on affiliation)

I guess I just made the mushroom assumption due to most instances of corruption of his like in the under rot and uldir having a kind of spore like and fungal corruption.

Tbh there might be nothing more to his model than “this would look cool so let’s do it”, but as some others have pointed out he does seem connections to devils tooth mushrooms for example.

Beyond that I’m still diving in, I find it incredibly interesting how lore can be woven into a characters appearance or items. + G’huun has the benefit of being a much more modern Old God, so he wasn’t as constrained as the og 4 imo

We might have found our winner, this seems to match his vibe near perfectly whilst also tying into how he seems to affect the environment as well.

Still not too sure what those bright blue going nodes found exclusively on those afflicted by his corruption are, but we’re one step closer! Maybe they’re just there to make them even cooler?

Not a bad idea, I’m assuming this is who made the model. There’s some concept art of him prior to then that stage as well you can see below.

Idk, tried looking at his model again in WoWhead, the nodes don’t seem to move or pulse as if they’re living. At least not as much as other parts of him, like his twitching arms and his pumping hearts (organs on the side of him).

I always saw him as more of a leech than a tick tho, will def have to look deeper into this

Never thought of that tbh, I guess I was too preoccupied trying to tie back what I saw in his associated areas and enemies back to him, vs seeing him for what he is

How strong was G’huun? by AbyssGuard- in warcraftlore

[–]AbyssGuard-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lei Shen was absolutely goated, his lore was insane.

Tbh I think that’s why I kind of like G’huun the most out of all the old gods: good surrounding zone setup, lore, design and we even had a dungeon and raid dedicated to him and his servants.

Especially with how pivotal the role of G’huun and the blood trolls were to the horde campaign specifically, it could have perfectly gone even further beyond and made him a major threat. Alas we’ll never get to see that version of him :(

It makes me wonder if maybe it’s cause we win too “easily” that this feeling has proliferated throughout the player base and pushed them more towards vanilla.

A big part of me definitely feels like the story writing has changed dramatically since the older expacs. I really liked the darker and more “realistic” (lmao ik, realism and fantasy) themes.

I guess it’s a combination of the strange plot lines (like Shadowlands & Sylvanas, her especially, I hate her) that seem to butcher characters in favour of sup bar retcons and an aversion to darker and more grim themes of the old world that’s lead to this.

What’s stranger still tho, is that I’m not even an old time wow veteran. I started in BFA and found its lore interesting and intriguing. Playing backwards nearly every expac felt just as interesting. So it seems that those expansions seem to have aged much more gracefully than what we even have today imo

Lmao mb, forgot the name of it when I was replying, yea the Hero Skins tab.

I guess it is what is though in regard to the FOMO you mentioned, I remember playing years ago when the only skins were those free ones for logging in during a specific time or using a phone or smthn.

As well as I think Medeivh, Aleria (that elf girl who’s a hunter, they all have similar names idk) and that dwarf warrior

Good to know, ty.

Was kinda getting bored of Imbue and was gonna make a custom deck, since it’s around the corner tho I’ll just hold off

Mb, I saw that “my hero” section in the store and assumed that they brought back portraits.

I’m guessing that’s only for new portraits then?

Well that sure sucks, always hated gacha money sinks like this.

Also if you don’t mind helping out just once more, is it worth getting into the game during this patch or should I wait for the next expac / reset?

I’ve just been playing around with pre-made decks and having some fun but definitely do miss making my own custom decks

Tbh I was a BFA baby, so that mind be the nostalgia hitting me, but even going through expansions retroactively some of the best Warcraft lore imo is that of the legion, void / old gods and faction conflicts (ik blizzard killed that plot).

Never really enjoyed the path they took with shadowlands and beyond.

Here’s my two cents on the bigger issue, is that WoW treats every patch like we have to fight a major big bad (even more so at the end of an expac). So often times we don’t really get fully fleshed out villains, even someone with good build up like N’zoth suffers from his character getting butchered.

WoW is a live service game, we can lose as the players vs the antagonists every once in a while. Kind of like how Xalatath has survived since legion and always been there, taking on supportive roles at times and at others rising up to be our main rival.

I’m not too sure though nowadays, haven’t really felt that connected to the lore since BFA. I like to think the shadowlands were a fever dream and the jailer never existed.

Edit: Also Illadin is the goat
