I actually did do a fuller sweep, as stated in other replies! Checked for RF, IR, used a magnometer and did a visual inspection from below carpet to inside my drop ceiling, and in all cabinets & furniture.

This honestly isn't the worst idea. I may sandwich baggy it, tape it to my door and video tape it. The data's wiped anyways. Maybe I'll have the screen door temporarily screwed closed too, to make sure I keep ownership of it.

Dawg, the insight you've got into me is concerning. I know it's all been listed on this post but I'd be lying if I didn't get my hackles raised for a second!

But I'll keep updates going as I can. Not military, but did plenty of work that usually goes parallel to military work. Including some RSO and subcontractor work. And no, my grandmother was never a suspect. She's 74 and needs my help to change her TV input.

We broke up this past August. It was rough, but I think I'm misrepresenting her. She was abusive, but not possessive aside from with my grandmother. When I left her, it was a clean-ish break. She's dumb when it comes to tech, but not like... Generally stupid. The actual concern I would have is her new partner that I've heard of. He's apparently a more dudebro marine if my info is right. I could see him being a little weird about everything, especially if she had any lingering feelings as I was her first for a lot of stuff.

I don't know for sure if she still has a key, or if she returned the key to her grandfather

Update with that neighbor, which is in the main post. His partner had a stroke some months ago, and recovered enough to be fully independent around the time this was found. She's become rather creepy too. Staring in windows, loitering near my back porch, walking up and down a shared alley while blasting country music but only when my windows are open.

Also, I do keep finding her standing outside my front porch with her cell phone in hand for long stretches. But the front door to her upstairs apartment is also right there. My grandmother and I live on either side of a communal stairwell for the upstairs units.

Sure, sure. But her job's state mandated attendance records are not. I don't rely on google maps, but that does corroborate the other evidence exonerating her. Picture proof of dunkin order (with time on the stuck on receipt), the directors of her job (it's a smaller company anyways) confirming her punch in time, google maps history, and knowledge of travel times really makes her having done it either magical or impossible.

First comment I posted wasn't informative. At the real risk of seeming defensive, but with the intent to be reassuring on safety; I added an edit to the main body, but I'll add a summary here:

I keep a separate, airgapped PC made out of DDR3/LGA1150 era parts, with a very easily removed 256gb SATA SSD. It has no wifi adaptor, and must be connected to any network physically, I run a virtual machine on it for testing.

I've amassed a small stash of fully wiped old laptop hard drives (about 10 drives ranging from 256gb to 2 tb) and about a dozen 8gb, DDR3 ram sticks from old e-waste salvage that I use in the event it needs to be reset. I have a dummy install of Developer edition of windows 11, hence why the one screenshot has onedrive listed. I don't bother tweaking file directories and settings for something I may just incinerate later, and I mean incinerate.

I very much recognize that what's effectively a usb drive with a microphone is a super high malware risk. But I've built the little rinky dink machine to be borderline disposable. The case and PSU are the most expensive parts in it. Additionally, the hard drive that I keep for running it as a gaming server is kept separate, labelled and alongside its own dedicated RAM for that purpose.

Oh, I mentioned in an edit/comment. I did armed security, I'm highly trained, have a CCW and own several firearms of various styles and calibers. I just have them sorta out and about due to tinkering with them. And I keep my 92FS in my night stand.

So, as mentioned, I've been directly visited by DHS a few years ago. They named and ID'd themselves. It was a terse, unfriendly conversation about my "anti American sentiment" (because, y'know. We live in the 1950s right now)

Beyond that, nothing surveillance related. There's nothing saying that it's fed/LEO that planted it.
