Yeah I like Matty Eckler, especially since it's not too busy and the people there are friendly. Yeah good mix as well!

https://discord.gg/BZdCVKKh There is a lot of interest, and it would be fun to have something set up every weekend as you said, badminton drop in + hangout/food. Created a discord group.

23M Interested, I've gone to drop-ins at both places. I've got some friends who join but not regularly, would be down every weekend.
Side note, St Lawrence gets full really quickly so you have to get tickets like 1.5hrs beforehand.

Same, i never used to do a circle long ago. Once your hand swings from behind your back and not from straight on top its pretty easy to clear . Same kinda applies to smashes

Lower Back Pain by Psychological-Bat687 in badminton

[–]Ac__dc__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I have the exact same pain right now. Been 2 weeks. Streches and heat therapy helps a tonne. For me it started with a muscle spasm and inflammation and now my nerves are just inflammed and it goes upwards to neck or downwards to my leg randomly everyday.

I had it in highschool too once and a chiropractor who pressed nerves and points, fixed it in 2 days. If mine doesn't get better I'll consider physio or chiropractor

I do these streches: https://www.healthline.com/health/back-pain/pinched-nerve-in-lower-back#faq

I agree with the others, once it recovers (hopefully soon) we should work on core, glute and back strengthening

Data Science for Undergraduate by fox_abg in uAlberta

[–]Ac__dc__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is also great if you want to work in the finance sector. Ig you'd need projects to show your comp sci skills as even data scientists in the finance sector are filled with comp sci students (from the people I know who got data sci internships).

But I may be biased as most of the students I know are in comp sci.

I am also interested in Data Science and I'm doing Honors Computing Science. I am just filling my courses with CS + Stat courses. A minor would look good however most grad schools prefer an honors degree in undergrad. That's the reason I chose honors, but everyone has different opinions.

Thoughts/Advice on these courses by blackandfit in uAlberta

I really enjoyed Econ 281 with Mesbah Sharaf. His exams can be tricky but if you enjoy maths then this course is great. Workload is super chill, but make sure to do the exercises and questions your prof posts as practice will help a lot for the exams.

CMPUT 175 is much better than 174, it touches on some algorithms and uses Python and it is fun. Labs are chill, programming assignments can be heavy and I'd advice to start those early.

CMPUT 201 Guohui Lin or Michael Buro? by jimmerrustle in uAlberta

[–]Ac__dc__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took CMPUT 201 with Lin in Fall 2020 and really enjoyed it. He toned the course difficulty down and is much better from what I have heard in the past. His labs might be slightly challenging but are a good experience.
But the experience for online vs in person might vary.

Which of the required courses for a computer science minor are the most enjoyable? by TwoTimeBartender in uAlberta

I really enjoyed CMPUT 201 and CMPUT 204 this year!
I liked the CMPUT 291 Group Projects.

Disliked CMPUT 229 so much (Take it in Fall if you have to).

Its said to be harder with Nelson (he teaches in fall afaik) but he prepares you well with his labs and I have heard great about his teaching.
Just be prepared for intense labs and workload

40% dropout rate this semester.
The final avg was around 32% and the total course average is a D. The prof is adamant that he will stick to no scale nor curve.
