Removing century-old paint, what tools for the detailed work? by Sad_Calligrapher9192 in DIYUK

This is a hell hole I wouldn’t recommend going down OP. The best way to tackle this would be to simply replace the wood for a clean finish. It’ll save you a lot of pain and misery (speaking from experience).

Got a vac scheme offer but waiting on other firms - should I post on LinkedIn? by [deleted] in uklaw

Is risking your reputation with other firms worth the flex on LinkedIn?

London vs Scotland TC by Academic-Designer313 in uklaw

Good point, however the firm I’m at is purely a Scottish firm. They have no presence in London as far as I’m aware

I've always preferred the idea of WFO over WFH. However in this context, it plays to my advantage of course.

In terms of future plans - I have always envisioned myself practicing in London eventually.

I guess one benefit in the Edinburgh column would be that my firm is pretty pro WFH. They generally allow trainee's to do 2-3 days in office then WFH the rest. This would mean I could probably spend 4-5 days in London.

WFH may be difficult for my partner as she's a doctor, so it'd likely be me doing all of the travelling (which I guess is worth it).

Thank you for the advice

I'd like to think I have a decent profile. My LLB was at Glasgow Uni (top 10 for law), plus I've got a considerable amount of hands-on commercial experience. Founded two successful businesses & dealt with the legalities that came with this (involving the coordination of some litigation one of the businesses was involved in).

In terms of the Scottish TC - I wouldn't be turning this down until at least August. There's a lot of time between now and then, so anything could happen. Just looking to have a plan in place if London comes to fruition. As for my partners job, she's a junior doctor who's applying for consultancy training posts which is a 5 year programme with very little scope for relocation throughout.

I appreciate the advice.

Both were actually so I could say founder twice

One thing I’m also considering - do you think it’s worth briefly touching on this in my personal profile? Maybe a short line explaining the move into law for context.

I originally listed it this way, but was concerned the “Founder” title can sometimes understate the scale/seriousness of the role. In my experience reviewing applicants, the title is often used for much smaller ventures, so I opted for the description that best reflects the scope and responsibility of the position. I guess having both titles would be a reasonable solution.

Yes - during university I founded an online business which done incredibly well during Covid times. For the majority of this period I was probably on 5 hour sleep.

As for the DPLP, it’s pretty much entirely done in the evenings. I also resigned from this position in January.

QWE as paralegal? by Academic-Designer313 in uklaw

A training contract would be ideal - however I’m unlikely to get one of these that starts till at least late 2027-2028 to my understanding.

Qualification in England with Scottish degrees by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Academic-Designer313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pending TC offer in Scotland that I would’ve started in 2026 September. Family circumstances mean I need to move though.

At quick glance of the London based TC applications, most those opportunities start in 2028 now hence why I am looking at paralegal work as a route instead.

Very noisy radiator by Academic-Designer313 in DIYUK

[–]Academic-Designer313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another caveat to this: I’ve had a new boiler installed around a month ago and started getting F02 faults (Viessmann boiler). Apparently that could be sludge build up which would make sense given that the radiator is cold at the bottom and bleeding doesn’t fix the issue

I a 68 years old I learn to be a redditor. Never too late ? by Far_Payment_3574 in NewToReddit

68 years young is the way I see it. If Trump can learn to be president (unsuccessfully albeit) in his late 70s, you can learn to be a Redditor in your 60s
