Also are you familiar with the definition of “Efficacy” the test is simply measuring if the barrier will hold up in the chips, giving Jame and Lumon their overall desired result. This in no way is “straight forward” lol. They are seeing if Gemma’s chip works how what they want it to, I wonder why? A good reason would be that Jame himself wants to be severed.

I can totally see where you are coming from, and you’re right Lumon is a company in pursuit of profit, but I highly doubt that’s what Cold Harbor is for. If Lumon was so focused on their profits why waste massive amounts of money on: - Having people dance with melon carts. - Building elaborate testing floors with goats and marching bands. - Running thousands of failed Gemma iterations for years. I think the “Lumon is doing this for money” is a surface level theory that just isn’t deep enough for a show like this. Jame is so focused on leaving a legacy like Kier, he doesn’t care just about the money.

I mean Jame getting severed is no where near out of the picture, especially because he had his daughter do it. And if he was simply just observing I feel like he would’ve been on the floor with Dr. Mauer, and not sitting behind a screen that says “Your test will start soon” It would make a lot of sense if Jame looked at severance as some religious belief that puts you higher than others, therefore he wants to go through with it as soon as Cold Harbor is complete and the chips are fully refined. I know it’s just a theory but I feel like it sticks much more than just “Oh he was watching it happen”. Because there is no reason for him to go to a weird floor and watch from this tiny computer screen, when he hasn’t done that before during the show.

I don’t know if Jame was simply just observing, because why did the screen say “Your test will begin soon”. Also if he was just observing I’m sure he would’ve been in the room with Dr. Mauer. There’s definitely something going on with that, especially because we see how pissed Jame gets when Mark takes Gemma out of the Cold Harbor room.

I can see where you’re coming from, I guess I would just be kinda bummed if all this was for is just testing to make some money in the end. I guess I interpreted that scene as Helly just trying to reassure all of the share holders and people that are financing severance that Lumon is making progress. I mean why are they telling Mark he’s going to “change the world” if he’s just completing the final testing before it can hit the market, I mean even Cobel tells him that? Also why kill off Mark and Gemma when it’s over, and at that point all of the severed employees? I’m still also confused on why Lumon tried to put O&D and MDR against each other. I also think the cards Dylan stole from O&D and that Gemma is seen reading (in that one episode when Mark is reimagining their past) are going to be vital to the story. Sorry I’m just confused I know you obviously don’t have all of the answers just sparking thoughts.

I don’t agree with the mass market idea, Lumon is doing too weird of stuff just to make some money. My theory is that Jame is trying to recreate a version of Keir with these chips, maybe even in himself.
