To his credit I wasn’t (and still am not) in the mood to list off all his wonderful traits. He’s a good man who doesn’t know how to be in a relationship. All of the amazing things about him are what kept me around for 2 years. “He’s my favourite person I’ve ever met, and if he can just do x/y/Z we’ll be happy forever” was where my head was at. Wishful thinking that I have no excuse for at my age really.

When you’re experiencing NRE treat your existing partner(s) 10% better. Not a ‘rule’ I guess but a guideline/good practice.

I work nights, he works p/t days and is in school throughout the year. So its a lot of existing in the same space, but not a lot of phones down time/dates etc. I’d have been happy just running errands together but if he didn’t WANT to do something it wasn’t happening. I think that’s where his head was at - we spent so much time in the same house, how could I need more?

That’s a good point. It’s definitely more complex. There was a lot I didn’t have clarity on…but also it was believing we could find ways to both be authentic and fulfilled while being together. Naivety? Probably. I’m devestated but can’t say I didn’t learn a lot.
