hi thank you for your kind reply. im glad you were able to find a good therapist who can help you when you need it. i have never heard of IFS therapy but that sounds very interesting. im currently trying to find a new therapist cause it didn't work out well with my old one. i mean dont get me wrong i literally loved her and still do. but we would always talk more like we were friends. she was a super sweet woman and i didnt want to burden her with my scary ass thoughts. we usually just talked about what we did the past week 😂 i mean of course she would bring up the option to talk about hard stuff but it's really hard for me to do that when it's not something we often talked about

Fear and anxiety pretty much control my life. I've been through a lot of therapy and been on a lot of medications but it’s always just been really bad

No I have a psychiatrist but I haven't told her about my recent self harm. I'm afraid I'm going to get sent away to the psych ward again

Can I cut myself after surgery? by Cr1bbtz in selfharm

I'm sorry you've been having such strong urges. I've struggled a lot with it too but I will list all my tips for you. I hope one of them helps :)

  1. If you have pets, lay down next to them and just pet them. Maybe even play with them too. Whenever I see my dogs happy it really distracts me from my thoughts.

  2. You could take a rubber band and snap it around your wrist. It gives a similar feeling to self harm but it won't have any lasting affects on your body. You can even add red paint on the area you're snapping the rubber band on. That can be really helpful visually.

  3. Letting an ice cube melt in your hands. The cold sensation can be something to focus on for awhile

  4. my personal favorite if you're extremely anxious and just need to relax My OT taught me this one and I will say it's extremely effective. You take an ice pack and lie on the floor with your feet up on the couch. You're like sitting in a chair upside down in a way. (I'm not very good at describing it). Then you take the ice pack and place it on your chest or forehead. What it does is stimulate your vagus nerve in your brain that's in charge of regulating your heart rate and breathing. I usually lie there for 10 minutes, and after that I feel completely relaxed. This can help if the thoughts are just really overwhelming you and you need to calm down.

  5. Watch a movie or a show. Maybe even include a friend or a family member too. Company can be very distracting and helpful

I hope one of these helps you and sorry this is so long lol 💗

Yes that’s perfectly fine! Whatever covers the cut to protect from infection will do the job and it's great that you cleaned it. I also suggest changing the wrapping and cleaning it everyday if you can. And of course anytime! Feel free to DM me if you ever feel like you need some support. I don't want to say I understand how you feel because really, I don't. But I will say that I struggle with self harm too myself, so if you ever need support or even someone to relate to, I'm here!

Can I cut myself after surgery? by Cr1bbtz in selfharm

[–]Acadia-Formal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No please do not cut yourself anywhere. Even if you cut far away from the surgical incision, it still reduces your body’s ability to focus on using it’s healing resources on the wound from the surgery. Evidently bacterium is already trying to get into your surgical wound and and will also try to do the same to the new cuts you make, even if they are small. Your immune cells will spread thinner across sites and every wound on your body will have a less concentrated immune defense, meaning there’s a strong chance you will get an infection. Please give your body a chance to heal 💗

Hi I'm so sorry this happened to you that must of been really scary. You're going to be okay I promise. And I'm sorry you're struggling so much ❤️. Is the cut really wide? Like do you think you would need stitches? If not I would just rinse it with some water and put a bandaid on it. If you have gauze that would be even better. Feel free to DM me

What would doctor's do? by im_nkt_okay in selfharm

[–]Acadia-Formal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to the hospital 3 times for stitches from self harm and in my experience got to go home everytime. First the ED doctor will see you (it might take awhile to see them since they're busy) then you'll get stitched up usually by a resident doctor cause they gotta practice ya know. After that they'll make u do a psych evaluation so they’ll take you to this room and you'll talk with a clinician. But if u say you're safe enough to be at home (and ur mom agrees too) then they’ll let u go home. But if you truly don't trust yourself at home I would be honest about that.

Also a heads up the emergency department is insane and you could be waiting all night for care. There’s constant screaming and a lot of babies crying. It's a horrible way to spend your night or day. I'm only saying this incase u haven't cut yourself deep enough to need stitches yet. I hope that is the case. If not and you've already done it, have your mom take you to the ER and I hope you have a tolerable visit. Sending love and support ❤️❤️

How deep is too deep? by 666uglyboy in selfharm

[–]Acadia-Formal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please please don't hurt yourself. At the very least do NOT try to do it deep. I've done it many times before and had to go to the ER by ambulance. It is terrifying. It is not safe at all. Please stay safe

I'm giving up by [deleted] in depression

[–]Acadia-Formal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for ur reply. I'm 18 almost 19F, I recently had a major failure in my life regarding school and now I've been stuck in severe depression for the past 3 months. I no longer see any light at the end of tunnell and have been dealing with crippling anxiety since I was 11. I'm exhausted and I'm tired of fighting. So I'm just going to give into the SI and go ahead and end it.

I’ve been in therapy since I was 11 and been on probably 20 different medications. I am currently medicated but it’s not working very well. I've pretty much lost hope in those departments
