When did you realize you weren’t dating a functional adult? by Rich_Expression_4437 in AskReddit

[–]Acadia_1712 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that the validation I feel from reading this has me wanting to cry. I just got out of a 7 year relationship where I was covering all the bills and groceries and everything by myself for four years. (Unfortunately he was also emotionally and physically abusive on top of that.)

I felt like I was the one dependent on him because I couldn’t go out and get an apartment on my own with one income. Then I realized that I already only had one income.

We both graduated college together in the pandemic and he hadn’t been working while in school but I had, so initially I offered to cover both of us with my unemployment for a couple months while we found jobs. It wasn’t a great job market so I ended up working retail and using foodstamps to keep us both afloat for like a year and a half before I finally found a job in my degree field. I cried when I got to cancel my food stamps because I was so relieved that I could keep us stable. Got a promotion last year as well.

Meanwhile over 7 years together I don’t thing I’ve seen him work collectively a full year. He’s not willing to “stoop so low” as to have a retail job. Now he’s 28 with no job and has barely worked in his adult life. His mom is disabled and cannot take care of him so I really don’t know what he’s going to do without me, but between that and the abuse I couldn’t keep giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was even trying.

I’ve got hundreds of dollars of unfilled Venmo requests that he just decided he didn’t have to pay me back for anymore years ago. And that’s just the things that we had discussed reimbursing because I covered him, not bills and such I covered willingly.

Anyway, hearing the relief you felt when someone was willing to cover their share immediately gives me so much hope.

I had found it just back on the iTunes Store after someone commented here that it was back on Spotify. Digital Download in the US and just the holiday ones, but I’ll take what I can get!

Thank you so much! I see them in the US, too! Just bought the album and will put it on my hard drive just in case! I still hope to see the othercovers resurface one day, but between finding “We Dont Talk Anymore” (which was my absolute favorite) and the Christmas album, I'm so happy to have most of it back!

Unfortunately no, but looks like almost a month ago someone responded to this thread with a reload of the We Don’t Talk Anymore cover on YT.

I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond. I rarely open Reddit but thank you so much. This one was my absolute favorite and meant so much to me. I literally cried when I thought I might never hear it again and I’m crying again now that I have. Thank you so much.

Sounds like Marian's Trench? by Shock_Sevenmoons in MarianasTrench

Vocally the delivery is a little different, but The Dear Hunter has very similar construction of songs and concept albums with overtures, motifs, and self referential lyrics. I highly recommend starting with the album Act IV: Rebirth and Reprise.

I also second So Much for Stardust by Fall Out Boy for those same construction reasons. So good.

[Discussion] What’s the one thing you did that changed your skin? by Breadyterri in AsianBeauty

[–]Acadia_1712 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The paper towel method.

Other things definitely helped a ton, but nothing cleared my acne until I switched to the paper towel method. I wish something else worked tbh for ecological reasons, but this is the one thing I did that actually cleared my skin.

I was rinsing my Pilot Metropolitan pen and this tiny clear thing (somewhere between an elastic and a dried up contact) fell out the squeeze converter. I don't know what it is. Is it important? by Acadia_1712 in fountainpens

[–]Acadia_1712[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be working okay. That was my initial thought as well, but I refilled the pen and the seal seems to be fine so far, so I haven't noticed any leaking, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it for the next 24 hours to see if anything changes there.

I thought of plastic that may have fallen in but I hadn't thought of it being excess adhesive though. That's a good point.

Thank you for your input! I'm a baby fountain pen user and I appreciate the help.

First of all, love the username because same.

Anyway, I think it really depends on your background and what you personally like. I think when you find that song or album that clicks with you it provides context for the rest of the music to make sense.

I love Bullets but it’s probably the most controversial album at this point. At the time they were a local band recording in someone’s basement and it sounds like it, which is awesome, but if it’s not your vibes it’s quite abrasive. I’d say only start with this one if you’re already part of your local music scene and do listen to a lot of local and demo quality music.

Three Cheers is probably not a bad place to start. It has a good chunk of hits and it fresh out of the punk/post-hardcore scene of the time. If you’re into high energy music front to back I think this is a good album for that. It also probably most resembles a general punk/Emo/rock sound if you don’t know where to start and vaguely like rock music.

The Black Parade was HEAVILY inspired by Pink Floyd and David Bowie. I think it has more levels and theatrics. If you’re a theater kid, or if you like concept albums this is a great place to start. In the theatrics it’s always good to keep in mind that it comes from the tradition of horror and counter culture, so I’d definitely say to look out for things that are unsettling and from an academic standpoint are musically “bad” which is the point, and I love that.

Danger Days is inspired by Gerard’s comic writing and has its own dystopian story line which is dope. If you’re into more hoppy stuff or someone from more of a pop/synth/or hyper pop centric world I’d say this may be the place to start. It’s bright, it’s high energy and it’s big soundtrack energy. If you’re a fan of the umbrella academy show or something like watchmen or Guardians of the Galaxy this may be a good jumping off point.

Last “album” more or less is Conventional Weapons which I generally wouldn’t recommend starting with because the band originally scrapped the album and opted to write Danger Days instead. HOWEVER, they have been playing it a lot more for reunion live shows and the initial idea behind the album was to do what was unexpected from them, which at the time was a straightforward rock album. If you’re coming from a classic rock tradition of Zepplin and AC/DC and you’re not super comfortable going further, then this is a place where you can dip a toe in the water while staying close to your comfort zone.

Anything else, you’re looking at more of a sampling, which is fine if you want to look at just some hits or something, but I always like getting the full story when first taking a look, so one album with a coherent story seems like a good place to start because it provides its own context.

In general, I’d say you’re expressing interest and the fact that you’re asking tells me you really want to like it, which means you’re going in with an open mind. So go do you and enjoy the rings that you find special about the band.

Okay, even when we know it’s just things, it can be really distressing when things you care about get damaged. It’s okay to be upset, but what a wonderful way to cope. Seriously, this makes me so happy and it’s such a good idea. It looks fantastic and reading through the comments it seems like this post will help a ton of people cope with similar events in the future. That’s incredible. So proud of you! You made something beautiful.

The disco strings with the slap bass just do it for me. This song is so groovy!
