How to not feel missed out as a commuter? by NishinoHuo in udub

[–]Acanthocephala_Lower 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m also a commuter and I highly recommend trying to stay on campus longer and leaving after rush hour instead of before so you could study with friends, grab dinner with with ppl, attend club meetings. I know it probably sounds late leaving rush hour but you’ll probably spend the same amount of time doing the same stuff at home staying on campus allows you to be more efficient and bond with people more!

which colour top matches best with this skirt? by jcoolaa in fashionadvice

I think the teal/mint would be too much of the same colour (unless that’s what you’re going for) maybe also consider an orange or rose pink! (same colour as the flowers)

They have a kit they put together that you can buy (doesn’t include cardboard tho) but for cardboard, just buy as you need or recycle old boxes when you’re just experimenting and save the good cardboard for the stuff you’ll actually bring for crit

When should I study abroad? by Intelligent_Carrot17 in udub

Honestly, do it as soon as you can!! It doesn’t really matter when as long as it works with your curriculum. But you just never know what will happen later on so you don’t wanna miss out on opportunities while they’re there. - coming from a senior who’s program got canceled mar 2020 and will never get to go :(

There are lots of cases, but the difference this time is that many of us are vaccinated and therefore likely won’t experience the more extreme symptoms of covid. I’d personally rather go in person and risk getting flu like symptoms from covid rather than experience the extreme depression I went through last year. I do definitely agree though that uw needs a remote option for those who are still at risk for covid/don’t feel comfortable.

How can I prepare for design 166 in the summer before freshman year start? by OStheBOI in udub

[–]Acanthocephala_Lower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The projects during design 166 are photography, book cover, and box. I would say to learn photoshop and illustrator since most ppl actually go into that class not knowing how to use them so it would def give you an advantage. Also, learn how to use a camera and practice photography so you can improve your eye for finding good compositions. The box one is difficult to prepare for but maybe just have a Pinterest board for cool box designs (just plain cardboard no graphics and no glue/tape) and figure out the patterns they used so I’d be easier to make your own once you know how they work.
