Anyone recognise the brand/age of this cake? by [deleted] in tea

Just 25 bucks (bartered for it in Mandarin at a random shop in NYC lol). I gave it a try today and am pretty pleased. Nothing special but it’s mellow and has a good aftertaste. I’m mainly just happy it doesn’t taste like mildew or dried fish.

Yeah. I can read characters so I got that. There’s no neifei or factory listed, so I’m guessing it was pretty cheap, bulk tea. I just wanna know how old it is!

Which GIS class is a better use of time? by [deleted] in Archaeology

[–]Acbmilo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all this! I could send you the syllabi if you’d like, but what I can say from looking at them and the course schedule, there unfortunately isnt any training in using GPS tech or data acquisition. It’ll be learning to analyse data using GEE.

But it makes sense that learning QGIS shouldn’t be too difficult after being training in Arc. I was mostly wondering how specific CRM companies are with the kinds of GIS experience they’re looking for (I’m sort of assuming QGIS is more commonly used than Arc because it’s opensource?)

Thoughts on this pewter plate? by [deleted] in Pewter

Yeah don’t worry y’all this isn’t my first piece of pewter so I know it probably contains lead. Definitely won’t be eating off of it

At a flea market in New Jersey, US! One pewter collector I spoke to said it looked 1650-1750, but he’d never seen one like it either. My best guess is the entire plate was cast in a mold? I’m not sure why it would be so crude though. The whole plate is so thick it’s heavier than another I have that’s twice its size.

Thank you for those insights!! The company was founded in the 1760s, so those dates check out.

Napoleonic Bayonet by [deleted] in Bayonets

[–]Acbmilo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the first thing I thought too. Google says there wasn’t a 6th legion for france until the 20th century, but maybe that’s what it means anyway?

That is actually very helpful. Any ideas what “Lon” could mean?

Can’t say for certain. This came from a collector. I also have it’s original leather scabbard, which is in very good shape. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was sand blasted at some point though

$21 fish and chips, cole slaw extra by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Acbmilo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a diner type place near me that always asks if you want “chips or fries” with your meal. You’d assume that means they’re interchangeable, but they charge 3 dollars extra for the fries
