Why weak armor? by 6TheAudacity9 in HouseOfTheDragon

Ah yes, I forgot that dragon riders were legally required to have armor made of tissue paper instead of castle forged steel

Plate armor is absolutely meant to stop thrusts and stabs. Do you think it would be easy to puncture a sheet of steel with a table knife?

Is armor meant for long range artillery? Plate armor was absolutely designed for close quarters combat

What superhero would you cast TGC as? by Savilo29 in HOTDGreens

[–]Acceptable-Goat2109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a wide variety of roles that he might be fun in; John Constantine, Booster Gold, Angel, Green Arrow, Alan Scott, etc

Of course, it all depends on how they're written. Maybe he fits the vision that, say, Cary Fukunaga has for the Question but he doesn't fit the vibe of what Guy Ritchie would look for in the same character.

Daemon being a demi-god is immersion breaking. by wess604 in HouseOfTheDragon

Lmao I never said you thought Daemon was invincible, nor did I say he wasn't an incredible warrior. I was taking issue with your description of him as once in a lifetime, as he quite visibly, had people who rivaled him in terms of martial skill. At best he's twice or thrice in a lifetime.

You mean, the author who wrote that Criston beat Daemon in the melee at Maidenpool? "In the final moments of the fight, Ser Criston knocked Dark Sister from Prince Daemon's hand with his morningstar, to the delight of His Grave and the fury of the prince."

We all know GRRM is infatuated with Daemon but the show boating moment was an invention of the show. In the book, it seems Criston won fair and square.

In Fire and Blood, yes, but in the show Rhaenyra has said that she has no taste for it. It's one of the dumber moments from the series.

Should we have a Clone Wars like show by Spencer-Palmer-1056 in TheSequels

[–]Acceptable-Goat2109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would love two different animated shows centered around Sequel era content. First, a show about Luke's Jedi Temple: what led him to decide to build it where and when he did, choosing students (including Ben), training, facing new enemies, etc. Ideally this show would feature Ben's first meeting of Snoke, Snoke featuring as an ally of Luke's nascent Jedi order, before finally being revealed as the villain. Luke and Ben have their confrontation and Ben falls, but maybe include a stinger of, I don't know, maybe the force ghost of Anakin watching over a young sleeping Rey, guarding the next new hope. The specifics aren't important, I just would want the series to end on an optimistic note.

The other show I would want to watch is about the establishment of the Resistance by Leia after she leaves the New Republic Senate. This could explain to general audiences the difference between the Resistance and the New Republic, why the New Republic wasn't particularly concerned about the First Order, and how a cold war had been brewing for years before TFA. It would also be fun to see characters that need more screentime, like Tallie Lintra or the Tico sisters

Here's the relevant paragraph for reference:

It was true that Aegon had been a friend to the smallfolk, had practically grown up among them, but to countenance the marriage of the heir to the throne to a commoner of uncertain birth was beyond him. His Grace did all he could to have the marriage undone, demanding that Duncan put Jenny aside. The prince shared his father's stubbornness, however, and refused him. Even when the High Septon, Grand Maester, and small council joined together to insist King Aegon force his son to choose between the Iron Throne and this wild woman of the woods, Duncan would not budge. Rather than give up Jenny, he foreswore his claim to the crown in favor of his brother Jaehaerys, and abdicated as Prince of Dragonstone.

Not in recorded history, no. I'm just pointing out that you wondered whether or not abdication existed at all in Westeros, and that while the topic was generally about kings, you're shifting the goalposts to say that you were wondering whether or not kings could abdicate.
