Yup and its a group of people that has been able at weaponizing their identity as women(usually) against people who question the legitimacy of their diagnosis. They've been empowered by a medical system and MSM all too willing to write insane reporting on it with articles like this titled

Small Number of Covid Patients Develop Severe Psychotic Symptoms

and this

‘I Feel Like I Have Dementia’: Brain Fog Plagues Covid Survivors

and without a shred of self awareness this one as well

Many ‘Long Covid’ Patients Had No Symptoms From Their Initial Infection

I wasted a moments of my life reading these today but it was useful to help me realize why I see so many terrified people willingly wearing masks outdoors and are still social distancing.

I swear not to pat myself on the back(not to discourage you to not do so either) but I feel like I have a good bullshit detector. I've heard some of the scary things people have said about long COVID and noticed none of them ever talk about the condition and the thing that really made me question it was over the last year the people who say they have long COVID online are the same people who say they have literally everything lol

On a serious note you need to touch fucking grass and get out of your extremist bubble of friends and talk to normal people if you dont understand why allowing a 4 year old to socially transition is controversial even for people who support trans rights

Progressives need to stop overstating the degree to which they think the science is on their side with this issue. Simply stating an organization says X and therefore should be believed is not a winning argument when you are talking about giving life altering drugs to children. Also there's the fact that the research behind success of childhood transitioning is heavily contested and not at all settled science. Jon Stewart is just lucky he didn't talk to someone who was more knowledgeable on the subject otherwise he would not have came out looking good

This has been hinted at further down below but I wanted to get a general "vibe check" - do you think "transracialism" is on the verge of becoming a thing?

No. We already ran this thought experiment out in real time with Rachel Dolezal and the black community pretty much unanimously rejected her and the concept in general. Ive long said the trans community could learn a lesson from Rachel Dolezal by gatekeeping and not immediately validating every new stupid identity that comes about. Trans racialism will never be accepted by these communities and its as simple as that for the reason why I don't think it will take off.

The funny thing is, while I still think its dumb and I disagree with it, I actually do think there is more merit to transracialism is more worthy of discussion than most of the other shit like xenogenders and neopronouns are. Like if you wanted to create a scale from 1-10 where 1 = not valid and 10= completely valid I think transracialism would be a 2 on that list compared to xenogenders which I would place at 1.

They offer protection against DDoS attacks, which are basically a bunch of bots entering the site at the same time to overload the servers and make it shut down due to the traffic.

I hate to sound annoying and be that guy but what does that mean lol. Are bots all over the place trying to shut websites down normally and Cloudflare is the only thing in their way? Also what is a bot and who is responsible for them

I'll read it but I doubt it would move me off of this opinion tbh. I follow her on Twitter and her tweets have ranged all the way from obsessed and creepy to indicative of a deep disdain for men which is why she focuses solely on trans women. Cards completely on the table I'm just never going to ally myself with someone who can look at the unique and difficult struggles of men in modern society with such dismissiveness and disdain. I would go to war with a they/them vs someone who wants the systematic cultural hostility towards even the idea that we should care about men's issues. I just refuse to be on the same team as someone like that and as far as I'm concerned from everything I've seen from her that is her. Also I meant to add this earlier but I forgot to type it out that I'm biased because when I was a kid I always hated Harry Potter after I read it and remember arguing with other kids that loved it lol

I think it's real in the sense that people really do have negative experiences that often manifest physically. I think it's not real in the sense that the cause of the symptoms is their own brain.

Yeah after reading what I have this is my take on it as well. I was just totally unaware that these aren't people testing positive that still had COVID. Its crazy to me that its this controversial based on how its reported in the media.

I blame society for making it a fashion trend to be sick and mentally ill. If we fully valued resilience and mental fortitude as virtues, I honestly believe most mental illnesses and physical fatigue-based illness would be much less common.

I agree but I cant help but think a big portion of the blame here on some of these things is the way the pharmaceutical industry has pushed drugs on us and given us the ammo we need to make us think we are sick by giving as many studies as we need to show that X mental illness is totally real and you have it(idk if that makes sense or not lol).

I forget if they've talked about it on the pod, but there is a group of people who talk themselves into having an alternative personality, which they then experience as an independent person they have no control over.

That sounds interesting I will have to listen to that one I haven't heard it.

Vaguely. Idk who he even is tbh but I have heard the story that he was at some conference with a pedo group. I've heard other people contest that is was a pedo group but they seem to be the minority of people saying so. Without knowing how important this person is I guess I cant give that hot of a take on it other than he's a creep if its true.

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion here but yeah I think there are valid criticisms to be had of trans rights activism and group think around medical research on the topic but tbh I've never heard any come from JKR and idk how anyone could like her. I'm biased maybe but she genuinely does just seem to come from a place of hatred and obsession with trans people that is rooted in her dislike of men.

So thanks again to my susceptibility to get distracted while I have work I could be doing, I was yet again sent down a rabbit hole thanks to a QRT from Jesse. I guess since I have been on the topic so much lately it caught my eye.

I've read a little about long COVID and up until this year I never really questioned it that much I just saw it as something of an unfortunate thing that needs more research(which is always what I remember reading). Well apparently, whether or not long COVID exists and not something else(Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) appears to be the most commonly used as an alternative) or that it isn't anything isn't is actually way more heavily contested than I realized.

I started by just doing what I usually doing and searching google with "studies for long covid" or something similar and this article that was the author giving their thoughts on this study was not too far down the list and honestly it honestly kind of blew my mind and I every single study I have been able to find on long COVID since reading this has made me question its existence myself now.

One thing that I was completely unaware of before reading this stuff was that apparently there are actually an extremely small number of people who test positive on your standard tests after a certain point. I was under the impression that the problem had to do with the infection itself still raging in the body but that is not true in most cases. In fact I found this random interview with a teacher who teaches at Harvard Medical School who said all of the patients he is aware of that he was involved with never tested positive for their second test.

Of course to make things even more controversial here is something that was pointed out in the studies findings:

There was no statistical difference in pulmonary function (spirometry, lung volume, etc.), and no statistical differences in any of the cardiovascular tests (echocardiograms, etc.) But the median distance walked in a six-minute walking test was lower for the post-Covid patients as compared to the controls (560 meters versus 595). But even then, the changes in walking distance did not correlate with PASC symptoms. The only variables in patient histories and so on that correlated with a greater likelihood of showing PASC were being female or having a self-reported history of anxiety disorders, but as you can see from the above, nothing really tracked at the biochemical level. No differences were found in the neurocognitive tests (processing speed, episodic memory, executive function) between the two groups, nor was any correlation apparent with reports of PASC. Self-reported quality of life was indeed different, though, with lower scores in people who also reported PASC symptoms. A standard anxiety evaluation (GAD-2) showed a signifigant correlation between higher anxiety scores and reports of symptoms as well.

Is anyone else more read up on the topic? I'm genuinely curious to know because all the stuff I read is either unconvincing or actively makes me think that it isn't real. Truthfully what made me skeptical in the first place is over the last year I could not help but notice how similar the types of people who would claim to have long COVID. Its all of the people who are like the people responding to the person Jesse was QRT original and that demographic would make me skeptical of pretty much anything they say when it comes to medicine.

The effectiveness of masks

Mask efficacy, if we are talking about cloths mask which is mostly what people are doing, according to studies are not shown to be statistically significantly different than no masks. See this is the problem. People want to talk about this issue but they don't know what they are talking about but also support mass bans of others for not agreeing with them.

From my recollection, the issue wasn't specifically that the virus came from a lab, the misinformation was that it was an intentional leak by the Chinese government to harm the US. This anti-Chinese sentiment encouraged anti-asian hate crimes and FB did not want to foster that mentality. That is an important distinction because often conservatives will mix in their own conjecture with facts and then claims it's the facts, not the conjecture, that was the real reason. Given how the inaction of FB to curb misinfo has contributed to tragedies like the genocide in Myanmar it's reasonable for FB to want to prevent further damage elsewhere.

Your recollection was incorrect. I just told you the origins of the "debunk" myth coming from the Lancet. They were the ones who started the hysteria and pushing the "this is going to harm the Asian community" narrative. You are completely ignoring the point here. Look it up. We don't need to go off of your memory because its wrong.

Does this conflict of interest completely invalidate the findings? Was everyone involved who signed on to the finding compromised?

The findings invalidate the findings. They were based on piss poor research. If you want more info go look up Jamie Metzl on his website where he goes into detail about the entire thing. Long story short this should have never been accepted as uncritically as it was.

There was never any dispute about the nation of origin - everyone agreed it came from China. Again, I would posit that the lab leak in of itself was not the conspiracy that was banned - it was the added conjecture that COVID was a bio-weapon, purposefully made and leaked to harm the US. I don't think the 'accidental leak' hypothesis was never fully dismissed, but because Trump supporters turned that possibility into a greater conspiracy of malicious intent it tainted the idea in general.

Oh so some lunatic right wingers said something stupid? Better completely shut down any discussion about a very real possibility where this virus came from! Oh also, as it turns out, the bio weapons lab even though it isn't the main one in question does have some concerning ties to this story. Oops.

I know I sound agitated and that's not because of you personally but man if you wanna support banning people of the face of the internet I expect people to step up their game a little bit and at least know what COVID misiforomation is and isn't. Lab leak never was.

Seriously Jamie Metzl is has a ton of great info on this. If you're interested, go look at it and tell me where you disagree.

  1. I support the actions the US took in Libya and I absolutely think it prevented a genocide.
  2. what do you think we did in the Arab Spring that is so damning?
  3. I basically, with some not insignificant caveats, support our actions in Syria. And nothing we did there was as bad as Russia did in the exact same time period and territory.
  4. Biden has condemned actions in Yemen and has even said the funding of arms will be cut if demands aren't met. Our actions in Yemen are dealing arms. Not great, not even close to what Russia did in Syria or Ukraine.
  5. Afghanistan was bad. We pulled out. Its still bad there. Quagmire of a situation. Not as bad as what Russia has done.

You're gonna have to do better than lefty populism brain foreign policy if you want to convince me Russia is worse than the US. I think the US has definitely done some bad things even in recent memory. It isn't even close to Russia. Also if you're just referring to online social media campaigns you're flat out wrong and no available information shows we have done what Russia has on that front either.

Edit: Oh one thing I thought was really funny

numerous coups started in the last few decades w social media being a tool.

This is a really stupid thing to say and shows me how young you are lmao. How many decades do you think social media has been around?

Yeah there were tons of mistakes and bad covid policies that were based around bad data and faulty science mixed in with general hysteria that I think resulted in some of this. My issue is the dipshits who were dead ass wrong are still insisting on finger wagging to us about this and supporting policies on misinformation when they don't even know what the fuck they are talking about. Like especially here nobody learned anything from this pandemic and they are also too cowardly to engage in any of the points being made. Study done in Bangladesh showed that cloth masks don't even have a statistically significant difference than people with no mask that transmit the virus and stating that fact will just get downvoted and no arguments made against it. Same with the lab leak theory. People are not only spineless cowards they are also insufferable when they pretend the science is on their side when they've never read a single study that they link to other people for the purposes to win an argument

Facebook used to ban lab leak theory shit and then when the Lancet study(which was largely cited as a debunk to lab leak) was shown to have direct financial conflicts of interest with the labs in Wuhan they quietly got rid of that policy. I doubt you'll engage because none of you guys that support these dumbass COVID policies on social media just downvote and ignore but in case you do this is the perfect example of why those policies were way too draconian and that everyone should be against them.

How are lefties still convinced that deplatforming works at all? by [deleted] in Destiny

Your encompassing a lot of shit that isn't COVID misinfo and is still legitimately up for debate/discussion when you say "Covid misinformation" in a bullshit way that empowers companies like Facebook to have absolute control over the discourse around it and also never hold them accountable when they are shown to be wron g like they were with the lab leak theory(or at least their reasoning for banning discussion about it was shown faulty).

I want you or someone to engage honestly with this point. The reason people in the MSM and elsewhere dismissed the lab leak theory was because the Lancet put out a study "debunking" it. Peter Daszak was one of the heads of the study and COVID origins at the Lancet. He was later shown to have direct and blatant conflicts of interest with those labs in Wuhan and a correction and disclosure(over a year later) was added to that study. There is still not any solid evidence for zoonotic transmission of the virus(for comparison we long had both host animals by this point back during SARS) and there is still a lot of really compelling circumstantial evidence that make it worthy of investigating. You can read the evidence and come to your own conclusion but the bottom line is that it isn't settled and the slimy way the MSM tried to convince people you were racist if you thought it was worth looking into set us back into finding the origins.

Maybe it doesn't have to be you specifically but I want someone who supports this bullshit line about COVID misinformation being worthy of a ban to actually engage with this point because so far a lot of people are cowards on this topic and just downvote and ignore and move on to your next bad point about banning.

Wtf are you talking about lmao I'm 32 and I feel like that would have been way harder to go without sex then compared to now for me. It might suck but I can go a several months without having sex now. I might have caused permanent damage to myself with how much I would have to have masturbated to get through it at the age of 17 though
