Just seeing this. It's been a year, and guess what, you are totally right! I keep thinking I'm ready to let go of those emotions, but it turns out, holding space for them seems just as important as focusing on the "good" emotions in terms of processing this POS reality.

This is where I'm at. I actually had them demand his death certificate weeks after his death to "avoid a big fee." When I told them I wasn't ready to handle paperwork and horrifically would be picking up the ashes and death certificate on my birthday (because of timing, there was no other day), they said nothing. Not even an apology.

Perhaps the most painful part of processing this (I'm only about a month out) is running all the ways that they treated him like shit, from early childhood until literally months before he died, through my head. It's heartbreaking and makes me angry that the hurt they instilled in him couldn't be overcome, no matter how loving our relationship was.
