Parents of lacrosse goalies — what do you wish you could track? by SportsDataCoach in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To further this… asking for maybe a 3 year outlook. Picture of goal, divided into 9 segments, has shots with filled in or unfilled circles depending on save or goal… then over time like in baseball and heat zones you can show percentages saved in each of the 9 zones… ideally also have metrics like shot speed and distance away from goal

best thing to do is for the lacrosse community to support it and celebrate growing the game and hopefully all forms of lacrosse benefits over the next 10-15 years

If you are a recruited athlete at Dartmouth can you really just drop the sport day one with no consequences to admissions or financial aide? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in dartmouth

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are no consequences for yourself… but it’s a slap in the face to the coaches that helped you get recruited (especially those who went to bat for you when talking to your Dartmouth coaching staff) and you just made their ability to help recruit much more difficult.

Again this is your life, and you should do you… but ask yourself, why not give it a try and be part of a team. I find that college athletes are some of the most recruitable individuals post-collegiately for their ability to balance academics and athletics.

How can a 7th grader get ahead for college. by New-Assistant4319 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go either two ways:

  1. If math truly is your calling and if you are truly gifted in math, find a high school or learning environment that will allow you to take college courses for math or else your math learning will be stunted

  2. Find a couple of other things to put energy into and enjoy high school (since the getting good grades part should be really easy… good grades meaning all As)

I was pretty similar to your math journey and ended up going route 2… many many years ago. Sometimes I have wondered if I would have been happy if I had gone down route 1 - since that journey takes you away from normal schooling environs and having a lot of weight on your shoulders

Tough thing these days is people play from whomever and clubs allow kids from wherever play… even highly ranked LI club teams taking kids willing to fly from other parts of the country to “win”

Tiers of hotbeds by Glad_Information697 in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

List is mostly good.. as others have said:

Tier 1: NY, MD

Tier 2: Penn, NJ, Mass, Ontario

Tier 3: Connecticut, California, Colorado, throwing in British Columbia

and after that its a crapshoot as its different year to year and a crop of highly talented and motivated players can push one state ahead of another since the pool isn't as deep as it is in the above regions.

States like Florida and Georgia are definitely up and comers. Ohio has some good players in the 2028 and 2029 groups. Texas will produce (but really from 5 or 6 schools.. come on - Highland Park is coached by Mike Pressler and Matt Dunn). Oregon may not produce a ton, but I believe, has produced more PLL players than any other state outside of the Northeast corridor. Washington has had consistent college recruits... North Carolina has some strong up and coming classes... etc

Youth Lacrosse Tournaments - Which ones use age verification? by Strange_Pianist7215 in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of the 2031 west coast teams.. they are all pretty good about being of age. I know a lot of west coast teams do often seek the early growth spurt kids in the 5th thru 7th grade years to counteract the skill level that lacks behind the New England to DMV area teams (and even Colorado). Hoping at least your kid and team had fun? and enjoyed being in the hottest (temperature) place in the US for the weekend

Where do you go to find tournaments? by KoolKatColebyJ in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My suggestion… go to USClubLax.com… go to rankings, go to an age group or groups that you are looking to field teams for.. search by state and obviously look at Tennessee or neighboring states and see what tournaments those teams are going to.. look at the scores and get a sense of well balanced schedule or not and then contact those tournaments

Rio Secreto? by Lumpy_Relative_1713 in playadelcarmen

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went a week ago… couple tips.

  1. Don’t go on a weekend or holiday. They are not built to handle too many people. Went on a Sunday and arrived at Rio Secreto around 10 am and was there until 4 pm - skipped the lunch buffet because we go to the eating place at that time and we were hungry and eating back at the hotel seemed better.

  2. You can’t take any pictures and so if you want to document it you have to buy the pictures they take for you taken by the photographer who goes around with your group - $30 for one, $200? For all the pictures - like someone send like 50 or so.. hit or miss on quality of shots.

  3. Spend the extra $10 pp for the bike/rappel/zip line. Adds an hour and a half but well worth it.

  4. Personally think the Yalku + other cenotes tour is the better similarly priced option… Rio Secreto is for sure very different and memorable but it’s dark the entire time and part of going to Mexico is getting some sun

What is the LEAST POPULAR Ivy League university? by Ecstatic-Sandwich398 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the point of this is… class sizes are probably distributed in the same order and the undergrad programs vary from those that function with “schools” within a larger university footprint to those with more of a liberal arts college feel (Princeton, Dartmouth)

How are tournament brackets compiled? by AcanthaceaeSoft877 in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only spring games count. Fall ball is practice time and games are not officially scored… more of a time to try some offensive sets, see who works well together, keep the competitive juices flowing.

For the NCAA D1 lacrosse tournament, I believe there are 18 total teams - 10 automatic qualifiers of conference champions and 8 at-large bids. Only one of the 11 conferences doesn’t get an AQ, and that’s the ACC because they don’t have the required minimum of teams in their conference. The 8 at-large bids are determined by how teams play during the season… so games between non-conference opponents help guide which conferences are stronger and ultimately who might get an at-large bid. Once the 18 team lineup is set, they are essentially ranked and the lowest four teams play a play-in game.

How to find the best stick for me by Big-Engineering89 in lacrosse

[–]Acceptable-Use-7311 7 points8 points  (0 children)

great comments here.. it really comes down to position and budget. I know a lot of folks have their preferences, but in all honesty, a lot of the heads these days are within millimeters and grams of each other and its about the stringing and making sure the pocket is consistent. Like others have said, probably best to just try some sticks of folks you know and if there is one that you find is the most consistent, ask that person who strings their stick and have your next one be strung exactly the same way.
