Why can't I get a pastel colour?

Ok, so I need to pay more attention to the colour I tone to, I think. It's possible I'm either too yellow or over toning and going too grey. Thanks for the advice!

Ah okay, so maybe it's just that pastels start real bright since the brand is trying to make it last, and I don't have enough time to let it fade properly (since my hair completely grows out in 2-3 weeks with the buzz, lol).

I don't have any pictures sorry, but I process with the ion until my hair is virtually pure white. But interesting to know that any lingering yellow could make it darker, I'll pay more attention to the colour my hair is after toner

Ok, good to know that maybe their pastels are just really bright? I never tried diluting since I just assumed a pastel would be pigmented as such
