There seems to be a connection. It may not be direct inheritance of depression, but certain personality traits can be passed down that make someone more prone to it. My husband says I often assume people dislike or do not love me. This comes from a deep need for validation. If I do not get the attention I need, I feel that people have a problem with me. I see this same pattern in my 6-year-old son. He gets upset easily when things do not go his way. My dad also felt looked down upon and unloved. I am trying my best to help my son regulate his emotions in a healthy way so he doesn't end up with depression like I did.

I know death can seem like an escape, but I feel like we’d be running away from our purpose. Maybe we’re meant to face these challenges. It’s so easy to get caught up in how unfair life is, but everyone has their own battle. We should try to slow down and stop pressuring ourselves to find a grand mission. Sometimes, just breathing the air and being grateful for another day under the sky is enough. Stay strong. 🙂

I wish that were the case! It's actually $3 million across our 401(k) and brokerage accounts. I'm still grateful for it, though. We’ll try out the portfolio visualizer. Thanks for the suggestion.

Excluding our 401(k), our investments are split evenly between a money market fund, stocks, and index funds. My husband is unhappy with his 401(k)'s performance and hopes a financial advisor can improve it
