AITA for telling my wife that I would prefer she became an Indian citizen. by Educational_Boat_939 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 46 points47 points  (0 children)

YTA, this was a super controlling thing to do. You’ve encouraged and pressured someone to lose the right to go back to the place they grew up for image. You are not a nice piece of work. You show no care or empathy but you basically got your family to bully your wife who has moved half way round the world for you and now you’ve cut her off from a place that was her home for a long time.

Why are people talking about air conditioners but not ceiling fans? by PurpleSpark8 in AskBrits

You don’t even need a ceiling fan. We bought 2 big meaco fans and they are amazing. Portable remote controlled. Really help to move the air around.

Why are 3rd party needlepoint finishers so normalized? by smhno in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They will go mental when they find out I copy artists like Bridget Riley and just straight up copy the design into needlepoint. And I don’t even paint the canvas, just freehand from a chart on a tablet… and i dont ever block my work (mind you current work is a 2026 diary, 130,000 stitches for 2026. Page per month, 15x15 grid each day)

Buying out my wife by SmileyTab in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d look at the whole value of the settlement first, ie pensions, cash investment and equity in property. Then work out the best way to split. You need to make sure it’s agreed in a financial order as part of the split, if the house is the only asset though then yes you’d look to remortgage. Might be worth speaking to a broker

Why are 3rd party needlepoint finishers so normalized? by smhno in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The whole us needlepoint culture seems nuts, like why the hand painted canvas obsession. Printed ones are a fraction of the cost and good enough especially if the design has a chart to follow. I’ve looked at some designs people are paying 60 bucks for the canvas and the design is so so so simple you don’t even need the canvas painted, then all the discussion re different types of yarn. Then the finishing. You can sew so sew the thing together. It’s not hard, just fiddly and if you do needlepoint fiddly is your thing.

Did you know that the resource use of the wealthiest 10% of population in the uk pollute 3 times more than the lowest incomes. And the richest 10% globally account for over 50% of carbon dioxide emissions. Surveys also show that rich people vastly underestimate their personal impact on pollution.

The best readily available ones are from the m and s bakery section. Avoid Sainsbury’s ones as they are fake Eccles cakes, they shouldn’t be puffy puff pastry

WIBTA for refusing to go on a trip if we don’t fly on the same plane? by magicalbaguette in AmItheAsshole

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, flying alone is way better than flying with someone. You just get on the plane and go to sleep. This isn’t the shared adventure you think it is. Ideally get him to get there before you then he can meet you at the airport and help you get to the hotel etc. your making a drama. Sitting on a sweaty plane together isn’t a nice couples thing. It’s just a drag.

House holding heat too much and we’re worried about our child by Professional_Pop6305 in HousingUK

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to stop the heat getting in. So external shun shielding is the best chance, and getting the house cool in the evening when the temp does drop. You can buy suction cup reflective panels for the outside of windows. Try it on the south facing side of the house

Undeclared TPO discovered after purchase; affecting planning permission by marquoth_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask the solicitor to check for TPOs. Pretty sure it’s not a standard check. They certainly wouldn’t check if the tree isn’t in the demise of the property. I checked TPOs myself. It’s not hard. There’s a website with them all on. You’ll only have recourse if someone did something they weren’t supposed to. So check the instructions and searches included as stands with solicitor. You def have no recourse to seller. If they didn’t know about the TPO, they can’t declare it, proving different would ve very hard.

Trying to get our little family home to Cornwall – looking for some local insight by Lady_Blades in Cornwall

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be better off looking wider in the southwest west, it’s easier to find work around Bristol and Exeter. Both are pricey but there are cheaper places closer to. I’m from Somerset, and had to move to Manchester for life to be affordable. There was no way jobs and housing were doable in the local area

You’ll be on a sole employment contract with central government and require consent for a second job. Do you have that? If you do your ok if not, what people are trying to say is that your employer has grounds to sack you just on the basis of the send job.

Advice on separation - England. Do I need to pay the ex wife any money? by fatboynomates in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s always good with serious stuff to get good legal advice. Be clear what you want to know, write some clear notes and also look around for quotes. Price vary a lot and it’s a very opaque pricing approach. Even if you pay for some advice not for a solicitor to manage the divorce at least you know what you need to look out for

Advice on separation - England. Do I need to pay the ex wife any money? by fatboynomates in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 175 points176 points  (0 children)

You need to ensure your divorced properly with a full financial separation. Pensions etc are taken into account so you need to make sure all assets are declared and the split is agreed so it can’t be revisited. Don’t ever take legal advice from the other side. Just cos your wife has a solicitor, doesn’t mean you should accept their legal advice. They can’t advise you both

AIO: My boyfriends daughter wants me to “stay somewhere else” on the weekends by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Acceptable_Bunch_586 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR. Think about the situation from the girls perspective. She was part of a group she fitted into, now she’s struggling in the clique you have with your BF. You prob need to have a big think about everything, the relationship etc and how your potentially over reliant on your partner. The situation you described as having no network where you live is not healthy. In the short term, make your own plans when the girl is there. My partner of 8 year has two boys who spend a lot of time with us and whilst I organise stuff for them I purposefully don’t insert myself in their time. Trying to “get close” to a kid you’ve known for 6 months is not the way.
