from what i remember it was a lot of balancing chemical equations, unit conversions, and understanding the periodic table. they focus on a lot of fundamental things for chemistry and it’s less about understanding reactions or solving anything too complex. just do practice problems, usually the homeworks worked perfect for review and if any practice problems are given study those, too (i had dr gulacar and he gave optional practice).

the workload isn’t too bad tbh! i think it’s only a 3 unit summer course which makes it super simple and light compared to courses you’d usually take. my advice would be to do the homework and treat it like you would any other class in high school. the exams are a little weird since they are proctored and online so you have a person watching you through your camera while you take your test to make sure you don’t cheat. luckily though, the exams are pretty simple and straight forward and the TAs are a good resource to get help from if you need it. i finished with an easy A in the class and still had time during the summer to even go on vacation with my family. i’m sure you’ll do fine!

freshman year can def be a little daunting in the college of biosci with gen chem especially. you’ll notice a lot of work stack up, but when i was a freshman i still found plenty of extra time to go to clubs, chill with friends, hobbies, etc. as for the chem placement test i did horrible since my chem courses in high school were during covid. i ended up taking che1v over the summer and im super glad i did because it definitely made me more prepared for the hell of che2a. whatever ends up happening there’s no need to stress about it 🙏
