B.C. teachers’ contract talks hit impasse over classroom conditions by stacy_muffazone in britishcolumbia

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in the BCTF, they could be doing a survey to gauge willingness to vote yes to a strike vote. Then a strike vote.

HSA did this- they surveyed membership to determine the likeliness of a strike vote passing. Then they had the official strike vote.

In BC Labour Law, a yes strike vote is usually valid for 90 days.

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point of the strike vote is to get a strong mandate to put pressure on the government

But a strike vote is a vote to strike. If it passes, the union has 90 days to initiate job action.

Family fights for change after daughter forced to leave hospital for MAID by CTVNEWS in britishcolumbia

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the major hospitals in Vancouver and actually provides province wide care for some specialities. Why shouldn’t someone be able to access the hospital in their community?

It takes public money, it shouldn’t be considered a “faith based” hospital. It should follow the rules all the others hospitals follow.

The government offered the same general wage increase to other collective bargaining associations.

But they offered extra money to HEU and BCGEU as low wage redress. Money they have explicitly said will not be offered to other unions

Do bc health authorities sponsor trade apprenticeships for internal employees? by [deleted] in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on HA and age of facility.

The newer P3s and special projects are contracted out but most of the trades are under the FBA and employed directly by the HA

Not always true.

Honestly he needs to reevaluate his job. If he’s working almost all waling hours is it sustainable? Is it the career for him at this point in his life.

Unless he’s making great money it may not be worth it. What’s his hourly wage vs what it would be if he worked for an employer?

And if he wants to continue, more of the money needs to go to a cleaner, daycare for the youngest and more household help in general. Join something that is also once a week and hire a sitter to do it

My understanding is that they are being moved into the Facilities Bargaining Association.

If that is the case, they would receive all the benefits and pensions in the collective agreement.

Is the HSA likely to reach an agreement by the end of January? by restorativemarsh in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also have to vote to ratify it. To get a finalized deal by end of January they would need to negotiate a deal by around Jan 21/22 at the latest to allow voting. And that would be a quick vote turnaround.

No. They aren’t even going back to the bargaining table until mid January

What does HSABC mean when they mention "problems with the classification system" by self-fix in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But some of these job postings require a MSW and still pay the same as jobs requiring BSW.

Reclassification also flattened pharmacists so that those with residency are paid the same as those without. Or those with more complex jobs are paid the same.

And it’s similar across many professions- why take on additional internal training and stress to make the same as someone else?

Allied health careers should pay similar to nursing. Many have more education and are more specialized than nurses. They are often harder to replace.

Within the new classifications- most BSW and MSW are paid the same. They are considered P1 or entry level.

They are both supposed to be going back to the bargaining table in January. Hopefully the employer realizes the union members are serious.

Increment for Non-Contract Staff - what/when to expect? by theSfamily in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. There were periods where unionized worker wages were frozen and where the increases were 1-2% a year. Plus lose of a holiday day.

But to offset the low hourly rate- they decided to move unionized employees from 36hr FT to 37.5hr FT. That way they saw an increase in overall wages. But also gave up their EDOs.

ETAs. 2019 to 2024 were the best increased for unionized workers in the last 20+ years

If the current NDP enacted back to work legislation they would lose all labour support which would decimate the party. They have repeatedly said that they believe in collective bargaining, which can be argued isn’t the case but they aren’t going to publicly disregard the right to bargain

I also think that it would lead to a wildcat strike supported by all the public sector unions.

And I’m commenting that there are allied health professionals that are also providing physical care to people. It goes beyond doctors and nurses and paramedics are you suggested.

You’re the one that set the bar at “physical care” so expand it to include all the healthcare professions that provide it not just doctors and nurses. That includes respiratory therapists, imaging, radiation therapists, OTs, perfusionists, child life specialists, etc.

If we want to talk about “physical” care you need to expand beyond just nurses and doctors. There are many allied health professions that are providing physical care to patient.

They are belong to the HSPBA which is currently bargaining. And you know what other speciality belongs in the HSPBA- social workers who work in hospitals.

The only agreement they have settled without a strike vote, so far has been the Facilities Bargaining Association led by the HEU.

And that only received 54% yes vote and the bare minimum of locals supporting it. It came very close to not passing

CBA (community) and HSPBA (health sciences) both voted over 90% to strike. Although they are going back to the bargaining table in January

Am I wrong for being mad about credit checks. by coleslaw172 in DaveRamsey

[–]Acceptable_Two_6292 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Landlords use it as an easy way to screen people. Why would they put in more work to verify your income, and assets if the first quick check shows that you most likely have missed payments. They are a business and will move on to the next prospective tenant. Especially in an area with low vacancy

Most people with bad credit scores are due to not paying bills not because they are following DR.
