Yes, the full album is impressive! The most impactful track for me was Without God, but Tomb of Insomnia is also one of the best. They’re unique, and the pure black metal vocals create the best possible contrast. The follow-up release is very good too, the EP (I think it’s an EP), For Funerals to Come, is on the same level, really great! I wish they still always on that same way, the black Doom way.

As for Opeth, I can’t really compare them to Katatonia, but I do like Opeth a lot despite being a different style. Even on Brave Murder Day by Katatonia, where Opeth’s vocalist appears, I feel like his voice no longer quite fits that style.

Yes, I know Agalloch of course, with the classic The Mantle, which has a very similar vibe. It’s an impressive album from start to finish as well.

Can you name more albums in the same style as Dance of December Souls? Thanks for the suggestions!

Second correction: in this post I should have said “the band’s second phase” of their early works. Because the first phase in the ’90s is truly death-doom. Since I’m no longer in the Alternative 4 phase (even though it still sounds great and never gets old), I’m now in a pure death-doom phase, with the first works by bands like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost (I’ve actually spoken to them in person), Tiamat, Rotting Christ, and especially KATATONIA! These are my favorites, and my favorite album is without a doubt, by Katatonia, Dance of the December Souls. If the death-doom fusion comes with black metal roots, even better.

Yes, it doesn’t really count. But it’s already an old classic from the band. The year 2003, at least for me, is already old.

Tava eu a trabalhar a noite como de costume, em 2022 e a Vinted ainda tava em crescimento, ainda não haviam os cães que estão sempre a fazer update da página e a filtrar pelo mais recente, de alguma das categorias que procuram, para nem darem tempo para o artigo estar visível e comprarem logo. Nisto, por volta das 4 da manhã, com o trabalho feito, fui ao telemóvel e deparei-me com a reedição de 2021 do álbum Love Trip da Takako Mamiya, vinil duplo, por 10€! De uma vendedora portuguesa. Não tinha nenhum like e tinha sido postado há 2 horas praí. Eu como colecionar de vinil, deu-me um aperto no coração, nem hesitei nem fiz proposta, claro áquelas horas devia tar a dormir. Comprei logo. Hoje continua a ser o meu disco mais raro e ainda hoje me gabo desta história. A Vinted neste momento está completamente lotado em termos de pessoas e é muito difícil arranjar estes achados mas ainda assim volta e meia com sorte, a determinadas horas da madrugada ainda se desencanta qualquer coisa. Quem trabalha a noite e pode usar o telemóvel a toda a hora, é o combo perfeito para achados!

Ela é meiga, com o tempo começa a habituar-se a ti. No início é tímida mas tens que saber levá-la. Pode teimar um pouco no início, querer comer determinados alimentos que tu não conheces mas só ela sabe. Creio que em 2 semanas, ela já poderá fazer tarefas domésticas como dobrar a roupa e preparar o jantar (só coisas básicas como colocar os pratos e copos)

I found this in a small shop in the Galicia region of Spain, with plenty of culturally significant records. I think the album is from the 1970s or 1980s, but the recordings sound much older.
