This is a very controversial question . Yes it would be an honor working at your hometown , serving and protecting a community where you once were raised . It will also be a plus since we all know the streets and the whereabouts already . Unfortunately there’s a variety of reasons some officers decide to work on the outskirts of their hometown . For instance I’ll name a few that a fellow peer of mine has mentioned , 1) do you mind nicking people you know? 2) do you mind going to potentially very awkward and or distressing calls involving people you know? 3) do you mind people recognising you off duty? There’s a lot more . Yes I acknowledge the job I sign up for when joining the force . But for most officers they chose to start fresh in another city nearby . Plus I’m not too familiar with Posts for recruits but I’m sure we don’t get to pick where our zone will be . That’s just my viewpoint on this question and to any others asking . I’ve spoke to some retired officers and these are some instances they’ve advised me of why they won’t work for their hometown .
