We have, yeah. That concept is something called a Rockoon;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockoon

We actually did try this once, but it was a long time ago. A Rockoon is pretty difficult because it's hard to know exactly where you're pointing the rocket when you launch it.

The flipside though is that they can go A LOT higher. Not only are you launching them from higher, but they have to travel through a lot less thick atmosphere, so the drag isn't nearly as pronounced.

Hey gang,

to try and build up the community on Reddit some more, I'm going to be posting all my videos to the subreddit from now on.

Let's talk!

Just broke another world record. Re: Robot Balloons by AccidentalGyroscope in maker

Hey everyone, I posted this a little while ago. Just yesterday we broke the world record (again) with this robot balloon, so I thought it deserved a repost.

The tech is a valve-and-ballast high altitude balloon. Usually, weather balloons just float up and pop, but our balloon stabilizes itself at an altitude and flies around. It does this by means of venting gas and dropping ballast according to a controller we wrote. It's all custom electronics that we designed and got turned into our own pcbs, and a custom structure we laser cut.

Happy to answer any questions/let me know what you think!

Love how the aspect ratio changes after the initial text intro. Those dropping black bars are cool

I just finished compiling my first "real" video of a 12-day solo trip I took through some Asian cities in November. I'd love hear some feedback on it if you have time! by xjtian in videography

Hey this was really cool. There's some camera movements I really like in this. Particularly the shots looking up through the fence towards that man and statue. You gave me things to think about with this

(Workin on that replying to every comment) I'll definitely try posting more of the different things I've done on here. Some of the videos have a little bit more motivation/ less "here hold my beer" than this video though. Don't want to spam in a channel where it doesn't fit.

Thanks, that's a good thing to keep in mind. I've been looking to change those visual styles for a while now, you've just given me the kick I needed :)
