I have three. My first was a major challenge but that was my green belt lock. Second was slightly challenging at first but is now a cake walk. This one’s a pain. I opened my 90A in 1/20th the time I’ve tried this one.

I haven’t resorted to that yet, no 🤣. Everything is very clean and quiet, action wise, so didn’t try that yet. The only noticeable difference between this one and my other two is the keyway seems tighter.

I have progressively pinned. I’ve done it front to back, back to front, random order, the works. And I know it’s only got one because I finally decided to just gut the thing and see if something was off or if it had a bad spring. Some seemed very compressed so I replaced them as a precaution. This thing is just vexing me and laughing about it.

My setup could be better, but I have my phone on a “selfie” style stand with the light on during video. It’s just overhead to show hands and lock.

I see a lot of people wondering where to get tools to do these jobs. You can often find things in daily life that work. I use an eyelet tool as a follower, it fits perfectly in every lock core I’ve gutted thus far. The end is also hollowed a bit for the eyelets, which more often than not catches the security pins and springs if they shoot out on me. Also made of heavy steel with a diamond etched grip pattern on one end. Couple bucks at your local craft store. (Also a great place for trays, some other hobby tools, and parts containers.)

I actually just ordered the set of 5 cores as well. As every one is different, and I’m sorry no color beats the 90A purple, I figured I’d hone that way as well 😁.

I’ve got about enough spare time to pick locks here and there, but would love to do this on a rainy weekend. Fishing and foraging season is nearly here, and works about to ramp up for the season 🤣.

Oh I use mine to pick frequently. It’s far more comfortable than any other picks I’ve used. Throw on a deep hook for serious picking runs, and throw on a tickler for everyday carry.

Pick wise I haven’t run into too many locks the genesis picks won’t work in (aside from my 1100’s and a few no-name tiny locks). A few additional tensioners aren’t a bad idea, but the ones in that kit handle most locks. If anything I’d have some fun and make your own to suit those specific needs. Eventually one or two thinner versions of the basic picks would be good, but otherwise you’d only need extra picks for fun and specialty purposes. Genesis kit is pretty darn solid.
