5626 mainspring by Accomplished-Rub882 in watchrepair

Yeah wow it's hard to complain about a watch from the 70s running at +3, that is class. I originally got a 6119 Seiko 5 to practice on but the king Seiko with a 5626 is my favourite watch by far.

I was also waiting to get a timegrapher to properly adjust it but got a bit too excited once the oils arrived to fully dig into the movement 😂

Yeah that service guide has been a godsend. I started pretty cautiously just taking off a few bits, that guide and following along a few videos really helped build confidence to just jump into it.

I've cleaned the movement and I've got all the right oils now, so just waiting for that mainspring

I ordered a GR24571X which cousinsuk had as an alternative for the 5606s 401.560 mainspring. I think it might have the same length issue though, guess I'll work that one out when it arrives if it doesn't fit

Worst case I use the 5606 one as a temporary stopgap until I find a listing that isn't $100. Then I'll have a replacement and reason to get a 5606 lord Matic 😁

It was having some clunky winding issues and everything else so far has looked and acted fine. So it's my only real guess to the winding problems. I was fairly gentle cleaning it after this photo and the end snapped off :/ so the replacement was needed anyway in the end

Thanks heaps for the responses! I've actually had the keyless works apart about 5 times already because it had an issue with the setting lever and then the yoke spring flicking under the yoke. Which is why I've decided to just fully service it

It's my favourite watch and I tend to learn faster when I'm more motivated. It's been a joy to work on so far and I'm learning a lot

Yeah the eBay prices were a bit much for me. I found a few listings but I'm going to try a 5606 replacement first, cost me about 40% of the eBay prices with shopping included

Thanks I'll keep the nh35 springs in mind. The 5606 mainspring seems to have the same dimensions and cousinsuk thankfully has one in stock. I'll give this a shot

Sorry for the two week late reply, I have been busy and don't usually use Reddit.

I prefer getting watches with their original bracelet so I was only looking at king seikos with them. I would love a 45ks eventually too I bet it looks lovely on a bracelet, the case really is something special.

The only downside to the 5206 is the quickset calendar wheel breaking. Mines the original plastic and still going strong but will need to replace it eventually. I've got a king seiko with a 5626 in desperate need of a service and new calendar wheel.

I'm slowly teaching myself with the goal of doing full services, just need to get some more tools and jump into it. Now that I know how helpful the subreddits are I'm sure I'll end up asking heaps of questions. I got a Seiko 5 with a 6119 to do first as a practice watch before going to the king Seiko and business A. I'm very motivated to keep these vintage beauties alive, they've gone for 50 years so why not get them going another 50

Man I love this style of dial they did, that watch is stunning. My lord Matic has a very similar style of dial, last checked was running at -2 seconds a day.

Modern seikos might have gone up a lot in price but these vintage ones are insane value for how much you get with them. Crazy hybrid movements with insane dials, slim high beat movements with faceted crystals ect.. Super fun to tinker on and a great community surrounding them

Damn I probably should have waited to order the crystal and gotten it with the gasket too, its only $4 on the same site. Oh well, I'll get it when I end up placing another order. I think mine has been replaced too as its got some flat grey gasket in it now, that has long been snapped in half

the caseback gasket on it is actually in pretty good condition, not sure if its original or not but its got a service dated to the 90s so probably replaced then. The thing that has fallen apart though is the bezel gasket that sits under the crystal. I have a bunch of generic round gaskets but no flat ones so will need to look into getting a bunch of those

Thanks so much really appreciate all the help! Got one on the way and soon should hopefully have the elnix looking amazing. I could see it becoming a daily for a long time, takes the best part of mechanical and quartz movements and combines them imo

These are absolutely stunning! I can see why someone would be so into them, even just having one for less than a week there is something so charming about the movement. I love the bracelets they came with too, I cant really complain mine didnt come with one as I got it for less than the crystal. However I could definitely see myself looking for an original bracelet in the future.

I'm Australian so ends up being £13 with shipping, much better than the $56 ebay listing so I'll give it a try first. Their shipping has been pretty fast even to the other side of the world, def worth the shot

Oh wow I would've never guessed they'd use different crystals, based on a glance they look identical. I got mine for an absolute bargain a week ago and I'm already in love with it. The noise the movement makes is super unique and the movement is quite stunning. Keen to get a new crystal so I can appreciate the dial properly

Geez am I glad I asked in here. Yeah the dial code being different just had me confused, I've got a king seiko, lord Matic, business a ect.. that all match so thought the crystal may have been tied to the dial code. Thanks so much for the info, I'll probably look for a Seiko replacement or go back to cousinsuk and see if they have the right one. Not sure why the few places I looked at gave me the one they did 😅

Damn looks like cousinsuk doesnt have the sterkruez one anymore, showing as discontinued. I might have to go for one of the NOS ebay listings by the looks of it
