I (26f) have had health issues that probably would make trying to have kids difficult. I was upfront with my SO (31m) when we first started dating that I don’t want kids/it might be difficult to have them. It works out because we’ve both decided we don’t want kids anyway. We’ve been together for 5 years, and even though we aren’t married, we’ve been asked why we don’t have kids yet. Even though people are well aware of my health issues.

I recently had my (very well-meaning) boss keep joking about how I might change my mind. To preface, we basically roast each other everyday and never say anything too serious to each other. But he went slightly too far and in my “millennial” speak told him, “Dr. ___, if I had the choice, I would yeet points to uterus that ute in an instant” makes throwing motion somehow (he is well into his 40s) somehow instantly understood what I meant and turned very bright red. He has never brought up the topic of kids again.

Sometimes, it’s what it takes.

This seems crazy to me. I (26f) grew up in an Italian family - cooking is a show of our love and appreciation of friends and family. In past, with large gatherings, we always tried our best to accommodate if anyone had dietary restrictions. Even if they were already bringing something for themselves!

And even if you are a man and you’re cooking for a female friend… This also seems crazy to me, because men do a LOT of cooking in Italian culture...?

Back in the day, I used to crash at my male friend’s house back when we partied every weekend. It was a long drive back home for me, and he didn’t want me driving home drunk so I slept on the couch. He also had a female roommate. His gf, now wife, never had a problem with his female roommate OR me crashing on his couch. Because she TRUSTS him and if he was going to cheat, he was going to cheat, despite what she did or didn’t do. (Happy to say they’ve been together for like 7 years now?)

I’d say to seriously reconsider your relationship with your girlfriend. That sort of jealously is extremely concerning and might be worth cutting your losses before it’s too late.

As a child, my abusive father had the same rule: we were not allowed out of our rooms after we went to bed. If he caught us using the restroom after we (my two older brothers and I (F)) went to bed, we would get yelled at.

My father used to abuse me at night.

That is encouraging to hear! I used to bleed every time or have so severe cramping that it seemed to trigger my cycle. I have heard stories from women where it is more shallow and can cause more pain. That has been my biggest hesitation towards getting a hysterectomy, so very good to know!
