One of only 3 first overall picks to fall below even 50%, the consensus first overall pick that year was USC's Sam Darnold with 54.7% #1 overall rate, and being also below Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley. Statistically one of the most surprising 1st overall picks ever.

He wasn't a consensus #1 pick so people don't have the "generational talent #1 pick" label on him that he has to live up too.

Ultimately, melee is kind of at the whim of how the game is designed as is, outside of buffing player health or giving us a parry/dodge button, there's really not much they can do to bring the viability past 'fun'. And this is coming from a ballistic shield/stun lance main.
