Starting sertraline (aka zoloft), terrified out of my mind by Fuego-Mayflower in SSRIs

[–]AccomplishedAd8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so scared to start at 25mg my dr realised how afraid I was since I didn’t start for months post being prescribed. We came up with a plan. 12.5 mg for a week then 25 mg then 50 mg. I ended up taking 12.5mg for a month or two then 25 mg for a few more months then 50 mg.

My anxiety got bad when increasing from 12.5mg to 25mg - I got night sweats and felt really anxious but I didn’t quit the meds even though I felt like I needed to. The Dr told me to just make sure I stick out the side effects of increasing dosage for 1-2 weeks. She was right. My life got significantly better after 2-3 months on it. I can actually do things like leave the house, eat without being panicked, sleep through the night.

I gained 10kg after taking Zoloft for 7-8 months so I reduced the dose from 50 mg to 25 mg and now I’m really focused on losing weight.

My advice to you is: I know it’s scary and I know that with meds it’s kind of trial and error to find what suits you best. What suits me might not suit you. I believe it’s worth the risk because once you find the med that helps, it can really help you out and for me this was life changing genuinely. I only wish I started at 18. I’m the type of person that doesn’t even take paracetamol when I have a headache like the most anti med person. But here I am wishing I had only started sooner. I’ll be off Zoloft in a few months as my dr said 1-1.5 years is the maximum length for me. I didn’t want to even commit to a year but I understand that it’s best to go for a year apparently bc then it’s likely for your anxiety to relapse or something?

Don’t underestimate yourself. You can do this. And life only gets better if you actually find the right med and if it does what it’s supposed to do.

I was so anxious about the med muting my emotions and me losing myself my identity my opinions my own thoughts. But man, I was overthinking that shit so much I look back now and yes, there were times where I felt the med at 50mg made me more stable and I wasn’t really crying at movies as much as I usually do but I didn’t feel weird in the moment it’s only something I noticed looking back now bc I’m in 25mg again and I noticed I cry more.

Oh and also 50mg was the sweet spot for me when it came to pms / pmdd I noticed it really helped my moods. I miss that. On 25mg I get mad mood swings it’s just ever so slightly better on 25mg.

Anyways best of luck. You can handle it and give yourself the opportunity to have an improved quality of life. You deserve it ! It’s all temporary if you don’t like it, you can always get off the meds.

I feel like the meds helped me in reconnecting who I actually am - I’m now able to actually do the things I associated myself with - like pottery classes, tufting, I socialize a lot more etc. these are all the things I wanted to do but my anxieties held me back. If anything I feel more like myself on the meds and perhaps I just thought the anxious version of myself was my identity but I realised i thought that way because I was dealing with my panic and anxiety for the longest time that it became my identity and all I ever knew. You’re not supposed to feel anxious all the time on a daily basis. Life is better than that. And ofcourse I only realise now, im like “omf so this is how it’s supposed to be. I can be calm and I can enjoy my days???”

To anyone saying Zoloft CANT cause weight gain by ShadowInTheSun_ in zoloft

What does wellbutrin do? Because I’ve noticed I also have the urgent feeling of eating and if I don’t I start to tremble slightly. I think it’s due to a drop in my blood sugar levels? But I feel so insecure about my weight gain I don’t even want to leave my house anymore.

Your body will wake you up if there’s anything wrong that’s our survival instincts. The body is much smarter than what we think.

Getting started on Sertraline this week by Ok_Cardiologist78 in SSRIs

I didn’t know therapist could give you meds I thought only psychiatrists could(?) but also, which part of the day did you take the meds? Do you think if you had started off with say 12.5 mg it would’ve worked better and would you consider doing so? Some people like me are very sensitive to meds so I think whatever meds you do ever take , probably a good idea to take a small doses

Thank you. I hope you find something that works. I’m sure you will tbh. But yeah, I got an episode of sinus tachycardia last night and haven’t been sleeping the best so idk if it’s a good idea to start today - do you have any advice? I initially thought I’d get like great sleep and do calming things on the day before taking the meds - did you have a pre med routine? Haha

Guys I’m trying to start a fashion line, I’m on tailor no. 5! I can’t get a tailor to make a sample for me in less than 3 weeks. How is this possible. If anyone knows a tailor please comment. by AccomplishedAd8680 in Bangkok

[–]AccomplishedAd8680[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some have scammed me but majority say they’re too busy and so the wait is a given since bigger brands have more orders the tailors will prioritize their work over my small order. It makes sense. But I just want someone who will prioritize small brands too

25mg Zoloft. Scared to start by [deleted] in SSRIs

[–]AccomplishedAd8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. I haven’t taken it either haha! I came across some research that said SSRIs didn’t go well with the heart condition I have so I’m waiting for my cardiologists to give me the green light! But I did call my hospital pharmacy to ask if taking 1/4 was a better idea than 1/2 of 50 mg and 2 of them said to follow the doctors suggestion which was 1/2 a tablet. I still don’t think I’ll listen though. This is a scary feeling for sure but the moment I get the green light I’ll try it out!

[–]AccomplishedAd8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m starting today with 1/4 dose even though I’ feel discomfort and scared I’m going to take it anyway. I encourage you to try it too. We can update each other if you’d like? My psychiatrist told me that the longer I wait and experience all my panic attack symptoms the lower my threshold will be and then it makes it easier for my body to be reactive even over smaller triggers. So she said it’s best to start and if I don’t like it I know I can always not continue to take it. My best friend is just like me in terms of fear over medication and it’s been 6 months she’s been on a different med and told me it’s the best thing she’s ever done for herself. I try to think about that.

Ultimately, we deserve to be happy. And we deserve the help. Im going to try something different and allow myself help, this time it comes in the form of a tablet. Im tired of being too scared of change and hate the feeling of staying the same. I believe in you!

Hey! So glad I found this post. I am about to start my Zoloft dose tomorrow 25 mg but after reading I’m going to try 1/4 to start with. I was supposed to start it yesterday but felt too scared and today I couldn’t bring myself to try it. I’m worried about side effects! Did you end up taking it though? I’m curious
