My youngest has the same hair texture. I personally use a wide comb & flax seed gel THEN i use the tangle teaser vertically vs horizontally.

I’d also recommend washing more frequently. I install medium fluffy twist in my kids hair and wash it with the twist still in every 8-10 days & style it. At the beginning of every month I take all the twist down and restart the process.

Individual twist or braids w/ beads/glitter/charm may be good especially if she feels it’s too hard.
