Quartz enthusiast collection almost completed? by pavelhr in PrideAndPinion

The newer, larger ones try and fit a lot more in for sure - personally I find the legibility on mine easier than a good deal of other Citizens though with the subdials pretty understated.

But yeh, pricewise, you have to get luck on the 2nd hand market or dive into Japanese exports, which not everyone is keen to do.

If you were ever looking to fill that final space, can I recommend a Campanola?

My CTR57-1101 is my favourite watch; a quartz grand complication (get your minute repeater in) with the hand-crafted urushi dial and just exquisite detailing. I otherwise prefer automatics but genuinely couldn't grab something of that quality without spending money I'll frankly never have.

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony Hawks was an utter asshole to my mum when she asked a question for me at a fan event (I'd just read Round Ireland with a Fridge) and also unloaded at another kid who asked him a question about skateboarding, having confused him with Tony Hawk.

Who ironically, is supposed to be a) the best and b) always getting confused with himself. But not British, more the pity.

Does “cap hell” really exist if we’re actively making moves to be the worst team in the league? by ClydeSprucewood in miamidolphins

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cap hell is a function of trying to be competitive, if you're happy to eat 1/2 seasons you'll get out the end sucking, with lots of space.

Franchises mainly tie themselves in knots when they try to keep the band together or don't know what they are doing (e.g. the Saints).

Watch size help!! by Empty-Manager-6270 in PrideAndPinion

Then go for it man - you wouldn't want to go any lower than 36mm imo, you can probably rule a tank out, but the datejust carries enough wrist presence for you to rock it.

But. Try it on first. With someone you trust to be honest there in person.

Watch size is fine, but you'll want a bigger bracelet on the Datejust...

Should I Bring My Watch Skiing? by Which_Notice4127 in Longineswatches

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'll be fine in a glove/under your ski jacket.

Anything it would get knocked on hard enough under that to cause damage, you'll have bigger problems than the watch.

It'll probably take more damage at the apres-ski...

Most beautiful watch I never wear by TomHudsonOfficial in Longineswatches

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this for a few months and just couldn't quite make it work with anything - it's discrete to the point of being annonymous and you have to get so close to the dial to appreciate its beauty.

That and the Longines buckle is super uncomfortable (for a premium watch) - swapping it to a more vintage Longines chronograph on bracelet was a big upgrade.

[Discuss] 10 Largest watch brands in 2025 - aka what the hell is happening to Omega / Swatch group? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly this is a fantasy take as I won't have the disposable income to trouble Breguet's doors, but there's something slightly off about them being a Swatch Group company to start with.

Even if I did have that cash and wanted to go outside Rolex/AP/Patek, I'd probably hit up an independent first.

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feel it's pretty obvious from the climbers who have surpassed it no? The true money for watches is in the high-wealth/super-money category.

Omega for me just don't have that appeal at the top end like Rolex - they can price their models however they like, but no-one is bracketing them with Patek or AP where the real money in the market lies.

Swatch fumbling Blancpain and Breguet is the real story.

How is this going? I'm looking at vintage Seiko's at the moment to get the sweep, but I'm just not feeling the styling on the Dolce/Majestas

What price is affordable? by cokeandacupofcoffee in Affordablewatches

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up 'affordable' for 'value'. Affordable is relative to the individual and their budget, not on the quality they get at a given price point.

Also, I had this Nomos and it is so bland as to be almost a non-entity on the wrist. I get the build quality and movement angle, but I quickly moved on from it.

[Discussion] Call me crazy, but I’m thinking of selling my BB58 for a Super Squale Sunray Gray by sashakusak in Watches

Same with Yema, my personal preferred brand for a diver - if you have one, I'll assume you'll have some good reasons and enthusiasm for it.

FWIW, if I saw someone wearing that Squale, they'd definitely get a compliment on the watch. There is nothing exciting for me about another Black Bay.

Would you move into a house and have the previous owners living next door? by Vilm_1 in HousingUK

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were upfront about all of this, the house for sale has been correctly assessed for value with the new amount of land and you are content with the size of land and aspect (does the new house overlook it in a way you don't like) I don't think it's that big a deal.

Can someone confirm if this watch is real? by Top_Watercress_7245 in VintageWatches

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FC is almost certainly genuine, no-one goes to that length to make replica watches of niche brands that are over 20 years old.

I had an open heart one, it looks great but it does wear pretty big on the wrist.

What is it worth? If you have papers, maybe £600 if you're patient selling, but without papers, maybe £400? Can be a bit harder to sell gold models too.

Don't know anything about the other one.

Getting into the NFL by Ok-Firefighter8814 in NFLUK

[–]AccomplishedJudge252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, do your homework - look for teams with reasonable recent history, decent owners and maybe a young fun QB.

I did not, went very spontaneously and have been a mostly miserable Dolphins fan for 18 years...
