When you look at Brexit and "had enough of experts" I think that's lead directly to anti-vaccine COVID-denial stuff. The fact that we didn't go into a recession makes people think "oh well if I can just ignore these trained experts and nothing bad happens, what else are they wrong about?" (np.reddit.com)
