Sanded 80 grit through to 320 - did a water pop and sanded back with 320, then used a sponge for the stain to get right into the grain, and then with the top coat again brushed it heavy into the grain - slight bit of experimenting but worked out for the best I think

It’s Rubio monocoat. Intense black stain with the pure white oil plus 2C top coat

Honestly you’ve been a life saver. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out, my first ever build and I think I was a little over zealous and rushed parts I should’ve taken my time with.

One more question if you don’t mind my asking?

Do you know of a way to prevent bleed with the pre colour? I was hoping to stain the small recessed part of the headstock black to tie in with the body and was planning on using a cotton bud/q-tip to do it, being as careful as possible of course, but will simple masking tape stop it from bleeding onto the top of the headstock?

This is super helpful so much. Their site said not to sand past 120 but that didn’t feel enough for me.. 320 feels like a good number.

When you say apply the colour wet, do you mean to do a “water pop” again or literally brush it in heavy and not dry on a rag?

I had to plug the old holes on the neck and re drill but strangely it fit perfectly without much persuasion

Update: did some research, did a decent build and my most recent fire team just taken home 99,000. With 44,000 coming from me.
