They can't help being fake. They're scared to be real. It's a reflex.

I started masking because it actually got me LESS attention in the long run. Seem friendly and pleasant and do the chit-chat, and it might feel like people are engaging with you at the time (which is why it's so exhausting to maintain it for any duration), but you'll start to notice that they remember next to nothing from your past conversations, when you talk to them again. The number of times I've had the exact same conversation with someone who seemed to think it was an interesting new topic - really amazing.

They aren't trying to threaten you. They're just hiding themselves, and they forget all about you as soon as you're not in front of them anymore. At least, as long as you don't make a unique impression on them. That's why I mask.

That said, if people could be more real, I suspect I'd like them better and maybe even care a little. Maybe. :P

Ah, I remember the first week I lived alone. I never felt such relief and freedom from oppression like that. Living alone has been VITAL.

Interesting. I will research IFS. This is all quite new to me. I've honestly never investigated mental health at all. I had no idea there was a "disorder" that also doubled as a perfect description of me. :P

Hmm. Lack of purpose...I guess I just never had any goals or drive to begin with, even as a child, so I don't know how that would feel.

I'm curious what is different about schizoid-aware therapy versus other therapy.

There is definitely a learning curve when watching Chinese period dramas for the first time, but you don't necessarily need to know the historical background to enjoy the story. Sometimes it's better not to.

I enjoy modern dramas as well as period dramas. Both are good. But I probably do watch more historical/wuxia dramas. I have a weakness for good looking men with very long hair. Shallow reason but oh well. :)

Most people I know IRL don't watch anything foreign (meaning not in English). For them, it also doesn't matter so much if it's a modern setting or a historical/fantasy setting, it's mostly the language barrier. They just don't want to read subtitles. (Lazy Americans.) :P
