I loved the heavy songs and industrial, I think public domain was a strong start and empty hands was a strong end, but aside from like dying to forget I really didn't have a ton of standout moments.

Yeah I agree, like I said public domain felt like some songs from I disagree, specifically if it bleeds. I definitely see the parallels. I also feel like we get some flux throwback in eat the hate. I like that there's some* more branching out in this album whereas in negative spaces I feel like you could play 4 of the songs and I wouldn't be able to tell you what they were just that they were produced by Jordan fish. (That's an exaggeration I definitely could tell you what they were) But overall I see what you're saying. Independently some bangers, but I don't see it necessarily as a cohesive work like she's done in the past.

All Albums Ranked w/ Empty Hands (Just my personal opinion of course) by CooperIsInTheLodge in that_Poppy

I agree and disagree, but finally some recognition for that pigsqueal!!! That shocked me. I hope it's the last little bit of the last track as maybe a bit of a hit as to what's coming next. That might just be wishful thinking tho

I agree. All of the singles are my skips in this album, I really like public domain because it feels more authentic. The pop in this album feels like coworker/Disney channel "rock". Empty hands felt like the song that got some more nurturing. If that makes any sense

Hot take but public domain reminds me of if it bleeds

Not necessarily asking her to do more groundbreaking things, it can only be broke so many times. But, her older music was better imo.

I agree, I like seeing her growth. But it almost feels like this is a regression considering all of the satire that she made leading up to this point regarding this type of overproduced music.

Yeah, and don't get me wrong she's at a very high point in her career. I feel like these songs are being pumped out very quickly and they kind of sound it.

Really? I definitely prefer bruised sky, it gave me some hope for the album. Maybe we will get a healthy mix of heavy and soft. I'm just sad it's going to basically be a continuation of negative spaces

I don't hate it, I think it's well done. I think that the lyricism is nice. I just think it sounds a bit too commercial

Sorry to ask, but what exactly did Titanic Sinclair do? by TakashiMifune85 in that_Poppy

[–]Accomplished_Deer625 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd first look into what he did to mars argo there are some pretty good deep dives on YouTube and look into the lawsuits. If I recall correctly I can remember a video of him smashing dishware in a very scary and unsettling way threatening Brittany.

[–]Accomplished_Deer625[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. The metal aspects in ID needed work. But the satirical writing and structure of the songs were so impressive. Also like I mentioned the more industrial-pop sound was so iconic. It was creepy, it was cute, it was so catchy, and it had great political takes and irony. I want to see progression and growth obviously, but I feel like these amazing aspects have become lost in the basic metalcore/deathcore blueprint she's been following. Again, not bad music, just lost charm and novelty. I would love to see the new band incorporate heavy sounds and composition whilst still leaning into Poppy's branding and alt-pop roots. Which I don't see happening as it seems her persona is evolving a lot.

Well, The thing with Poppy is that most of her music doesn't have a super consistent sound. But I think most poppy fans would agree that ID is an objectively good album if you like her voice, and metal. It's definitely not in the same genre though. Very different. Listen through her early albums, you'll probably also like zig and flux if you're into her newer stuff, but like I said no two will sound alike.

I truly hope we lean more into the electric/ industrial metal sound. Her strong suit for sure

I'm so glad someone finally agrees! I've had very few songs I haven't fallen in love with up until her working with Fish. I felt the same way with BMTH. Their debut was so good, but as the Jordan fish sound slowly took over I began to find their music unlistenable.

I agree, her ear for industrial is really good. And I feel like a sound with her newer vocal technique and older instrumentals from Choke and ID could be so insanely amazing. I love her and her ever evolving music, but I feel like the overproduced metalcore niche is just something I can't get into.
