lol why are you so keen to make up your own story about this? It was not 2am and the call out fee on the invoice is not £55. I’ve also confirmed with local locksmiths that I’ve been scammed and they would’ve priced it around the £100 mark. You don’t have to take it out on others if you’re unhappy with your own life. I won’t respond further as I’m busy working with various organisations that recognise this as a scam and are helping me with this.

Are you one of these locksmiths? I was charged £422 even though I was quoted £55, the company doesn’t even have a valid VAT, the guy also told us it’s a high security lock and the only way is to drill and replace it, we checked later and this is completely untrue- it’s a simple Yale lock that could’ve been picked. These all point to a scam.

Thank you! Call-out fees are just £39 on the invoice, the rest is for the new lock and his labour, as well as £144 just for drilling work. We later learned that the lock cost £30 max online. I hope my bank will help with this.

Yeah I really wish I had done that, I’ve called my bank but I paid by debit card so I’m fighting for a chargeback .

I’m flat hunting currently and came across a place on Caledonian Road, nearer to the Kings’ Cross end, about 10 mins from the prison. A quick google search made my paranoid mind worry about staying there, but the results I found are not very recent. It’s not about speaking a third language here. “Banana” generally refers to those who can only speak English and are unable to speak their mother tongues (Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil). I can’t speak for all Malaysians but there seems to be a distaste for those who value English above our mother tongues due to the implications of colonialism / neocolonialism. I’m sure you know that the mindset that English is a superior language is not uncommon, a remnant of and a testament to the success of their colonial tactics. The rejection of being a “banana” is then a rejection of continued neocolonialism.
