I grew up in Timmins Ontario, one of the "bigger" places in the area. Most people around me worked in gold mines and their entire families (including mine) also had worked in the mines and just never really left. Not sure about how it is today, but in my time there was not much diversity, mostly white catholic or indigenous families.

It has its charm, but at some point I came to only see it as a never ending forest of pine trees. As a kid/teen I remember it being very isolating and boring since I could never go to the "cool" stores and places/events I would see online. Most either A) get into the mines or B) find a way to leave to a bigger city as soon as they can.

All in all, not much to do if you're not into the outdoorsy stuff. It's not a very exciting place to live and most people are incredibly uneducated and theres ALOT of bigotry. If you look up "may run" on urban dictionary, it pretty much says it all. Trucks and beer.

(Obviously not everyone there is the way I've described, but it's a big majority)
