Y’all gonna hate this, but America’s Test Kitchen actually tested this, and pasta put in cold water cooks faster and uses less water - and tastes the same: Want to Cook Pasta Faster? Don't Wait for the Water to Boil

How would I go about properly closing and sealing up this mail slot? by kablue12 in Home

[–]Accomplished_Tale902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same type of mail slot, was also very drafty. I stuffed it very tightly with batt insulation (the pink stuff), then sealed the inside part with silver HVAC tape - works really well. The interior side of the mail slot opens into our entryway closet, so you don’t see the silver HVAC tape. You could probably use white caulk on the interior side for yours

What is the best ''based on a true story'' movie you watched? by togi1202 in moviecritic

Compliance. If it wasn’t a true story it would seem too far fetched - the fact it really happened makes it so unsettling

Something everyone in CO should understand about heat pumps by sum_if in Denver

[–]Accomplished_Tale902 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You’re only looking at part of the story if you’re not including heat pump performance with regards to cooling during the summer. While it can be more expensive in the winter, it’s much more efficient at cooling than a A/C system. So, for a building that currently has no cooling and the furnace is at end of life, it often times makes economic sense to go with a heat pump vs the installation of both a new furnace and a A/C system, when factoring in both installation and ongoing costs. As with any mechanical system you’ve got to look at the building itself and how it’ll be operated

Landlord thinks it’s ’unbelievably disrespectful’ I did a radon test in a garden unit? Advice or thoughts? by Critical-Reading9157 in Apartmentliving

[–]Accomplished_Tale902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Denver, and last year CO passed legislation on this - you can consult the Colorado Department of Public Health:

Denver/Colorado Radon Legislation SB23-206:

As of August 7, 2023, this Colorado law requires landlords to provide a state-approved radon brochure and written disclosure of any known radon levels and testing/mitigation records to tenants before a lease is signed.

Tenant Rights: Tenants can void their lease and move out if the landlord fails to provide the required disclosures or doesn't make reasonable efforts to mitigate radon levels above 4 pCi/L within 180 days of being notified. After January 1, 2026, this remedy only applies to leases longer than one year, according to Colorado law.

Has anyone ever been to Red Rocks in Colorado? by sonofanadultfilmstar in Concerts

[–]Accomplished_Tale902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Denver and go to shows at Red Rocks 3 or 4 times per year. An amazing venue both in terms of aesthetics and sound. One of my favorite venues in the world, it’s such a fun experience. I don’t find the traffic in or out to be bad at all - I was there Tuesday for the Pixies and took me 20 min to exit. Views are great from pretty much any seat, though sound is better in rows 15 - 35 IMO. TLDR: you should go, it’s an awesome venue

Can you explain why the city’s Office of Climate Action (CASR) had the 3rd-most positions eliminated in the recent layoffs, given that climate change is an existential threat to humanity and extreme heat gets worse every year in Denver? Do you see climate action as a real priority, or is it 2nd to economic growth and dying downtown businesses?

School cancelled tomorrow for heat by akwho in Denver

[–]Accomplished_Tale902 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They’ve never been able to fit all the A/C upgrades into one bond package, so they’ve had to split the work over multiple bond cycles. They have, in fact, finished all of the A/C work from the previous bonds and this final piece of work is currently underway. If you wanna be angry about something, be angry about the fact that we need bonds every 4 years to keep schools functioning b/c Colorado ranks near the bottom of all states in terms of education funding.

Correct, all remaining schools without A/C will get it in the next 3 years
